Skiing in Flumserberg

From November to March it’s often quite misty and foggy in Zurich, but up above the clouds in the mountains it’s often lovely and sunny. There is even a phrase “unten grau, oben blau” which roughly translates as “grey down below and blue on top” and is often quite apt for this time of year.

If you fancy escaping the “grau” why not head for the nearby slopes of Flumserberg. It’s easily accessible from Zurich either by train or by car. By train you head to the railway station Unterterzen where there is a gondola to take you to the ski slopes at the top of the mountain. By car you either drive to the car park at Unterterzen and take the gondola or take the car right the way to the top and park there instead.

Flumserberg is a medium sized resort with great facilities. They even offer a special ski pass called a “Stundenkarte” which allows you to ski at a reduced price for either 3 or 4 hours (do remember to get back to the ticket office on time though to get the price advantage!)

They have a number of restaurants and bars and for non skiers there are hiking trails and a toboggan run.
