Have you noticed that Zurich has become overrun with rabbits? Wherever you look they’re peering at you from behind shop windows, counter displays, magazine and newspaper advertisements and well, everything and everywhere!
First it was the gold Lindt rabbits stacked neatly (Swiss style) in rows upon rows in your local Coop. Then there were the giant ones tied to car bonnets and roof tops (have you seen the one in Stadelhofen above the shop?) or the one above at the Giardina Messe in Oerlikon yesterday?
Every single shop window in Zurich seems to have more and more of these endearing rabbits in all shades of chocolate from white to milk to glossy dark brown – (and various colours in-between) seemingly screaming at you as you walk past to “buy me now”, or perhaps it’s “eat me now” they are saying?
The varieties on offer are endless. Whereas in the UK you have the Cadbury creme eggs and your large hollow eggs in a varying sizes – packed into gigantic cardboard containers to make you think that they’re twice the size they really are, here in Switzerland it’s not so much eggs as bunnies that dominate.
So next time you wander down Bahnhofstrasse or elsewhere in Zurich just keep your eyes open and I’m sure you’ll be amazed at all the bunnies desperately wanting you to give them a good home.
Feel the pity, feel the love ….and enjoy!
And if you’d like to enjoy an even more chocolatey experience you must come along to the Salon du Chocolat in Zurich which is taking place this Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th March at the Messe in Oerlikon. This is just the 2nd Salon du Chocolat to take place in this renowned country of chocolate and will be opened by the founders Sylvie Douce and François Jeantet. Not only will there be chocolate workshops, chocolate seminars, chocolate tasting – but also a chocolate catwalk with models dressed in amazing chocolate creations!
