Many of you will have noticed the beautiful flags which have been decorating Rennweg in the centre of Zurich for the past few weeks. There are 31 flags in total, each measuring 300 by 400 cm and they are on display courtesy of the artist, Ekrem Yalcindag and the Galerie Dirimart in Istanbul.
Maybe you’ve also spotted the multi-coloured glass exhibit in Paradeplatz? This is also part of the “Gasträume” or “Art in Public Places” project which is currently running in Zurich.
The flags also belong to the external exhibition of the Haus Konstruktiv’s project called “Hot Spot Istanbul” which is represented by this colourful paining by the same artist:
The exhibition covers work from over sixty years showing Turkish abstract, conceptual and contemporary art and there are 80 pieces on display by 21 different artists. The crux of the project is to show how Turkish abstract concrete painting has developed after the second world war and its impact on society.
Here is a 5 minute video (in German and in English) which explains a little more about the Hot Spot Istanbul exhibition at the Museum Haus Konstruktiv:
