It’s been a fantastic year so far for skating pair Tatiana Volosozhar from the Ukraine and her Russian partner Maxim Trankov. They have been successful in winning a whopping two gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. They were friendly and down to earth when we met them in Zurich and explained how it had been a massive honour for them to win gold in their home country and how pleased their families were. They have ben further honoured by being invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin, to a private party in Moscow on the 27th February, from which they will be flying back to take part in Art on Ice.

The key stars of Art on Ice are of course the amazing ice skaters. This year Stéphane Lambiel, Sarah Meier, Kurt Browning, Joannie Rochette, Florent Amodio ( Zurich & Lausanne only), Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, Gev Manoukian, Nathalie Péchalat & Fabian Bourzat, will all be performing along with Tatiana Volosozhar & Maxim Trankov. There is also a team of Art on Ice dancers and music from the Youth Classics Orchestra.

Art on Ice takes place at the Hallenstation in Zurich and this year the Manchester band Hurts will be performing live as well as the pianist Khatia Buniatishvili and Loreen, the winner of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. Mummenschanz, the Swiss theatre group will also be there too.
The European Tour dates are from 27th February to 13th March and it all kicks off with 6 shows in Zurich. It then goes on to Lausanne for two performances and 2 more in Davos followed by a performance each in Helsinki and in Stockholm. Art on Ice is one of the most popular shows in the world and attracts almost 100,000 spectators a year – make sure you book your ticket to get a piece of the action.
NewInZurich was lucky enough to attend last year when Leona Lewis was performing (see article here) and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
