December Weekend in Zurich in Photos

Zurich in Photos – A Weekend in December:

Advent in Zurich is a very busy time. Not only are the shops open on selected “Shopping Sundays” but there is whole bustle and excitement all over the city in the run up to Christmas. There are lots of Christmas Markets in Zurich itself – read here for a link to the Christmas Markets in Zurich and all over Switzerland – but there are so many other events and activities for all the family.

Samichlaus and Zurich

This weekend was blue skied and sunny and provided the perfect backdrop for a multitude of events.  There was of course Father Christmas and his angels riding around town (at an astonishingly fast pace it must be said!) in his Märlitram, the Singing Christmas Tree in Werdmühleplatz and on Sunday there was the annual Samichlaus Swimming where the brave (or the mad?) strip down to their bathing suits and swim across the Limmat in these freezing cold December temperatures! Click here for some photos of last year’s event.

Diccon Bewes Switzerland

If you fancied keeping out of the cold, there was a book signing with Diccon Bewes at Orell Füssli, where the author was signing his latest book “Slow Train to Switzerland”. A little further up Rennweg, Confiserie Honold were offering samples of their delicious Winter Chocolate collection and further down Bahnhofstrasse Father Christmas could be found hanging out on his customised Harley Davidson! Then right in the middle of Paradeplatz, at the very busy tram intersection, a very accomplished piano player was to be found regaling the crowds playing a grand piano!
