A Skiing Stay at Priva Alpine Lodge Lenzerheide
Easy to Get to From Zurich
If you live in Zurich and are looking for an easily accessible weekend skiing destination then Lenzerheide ticks all the boxes. Not only is Lenzerheide just an hour and a half way from Zurich and easy to get to with both by car and public transport, but thanks to the newly opened connection to Arosa it offers one great big skiable area. The Lenzerheide – Arosa combined resort offers 225 kilometres of ski slopes ( 111km blue, 87km red, and 27km black), reliable snow and an amazing number of days of sunshine.
Located in Graubünden it is do-able in a day, but a great destination for a weekend and a fabulous place to spend a full week. In fact, with the mountains, the wellness and the kids club it’s a wonderful destination anytime of year.
Priva Alpine Lodge Lenzerheide
After an efficient and friendly check in, Vendelin Coray the manager of “Priva Alpine Lodge” took us for a tour of the resort. Opened in December 2014 and located on the former “Club Med” premises in Lenzerheide, the Priva Lodge is ideally located for skiing as it is situated close to the Rothorn lift. It also offers that ultimate luxury – “in / out skiing” directly onto the slopes.
For those of you who prefer Langlaufen you won’t be disappointed either, as there is a Langlaufen course a few minutes away from the Priva Lodge and Langlaufen tuition is available and there is also a walking route and a lake too.
Stylish, Spacious and Modern Accommodation
The Priva Lodge (“priva” is Romansch, the local Graubunden language and means “easy-going”) is made up of 10 newly-constructed stone and wood buildings, which blend sympathetically with the surrounding pine trees and woods. The accommodation is stylish and well designed and consists of self-catered apartments with one, two or three bedrooms in either superior or deluxe or penthouse categories. There are also 3 chalets which accommodate groups of 6, 8 or 14 people.
The apartments and bedrooms are well equipped, very Swiss and practical and good quality too. In comparison to similar French resorts I’ve stayed at they are far more spacious.
They all have a kitchen with (induction) hob, coffee machine, kettle, microwave, free WIFI, smart TV and for that extra touch they even have small wood-burning stoves for a cosy evening in. The deluxe category and above also come equipped with a washing / dryer machine and your own private infra-red sauna. Whilst you relax upstairs your boots are drying out nicely in the boot room below ready for the morning’s assault on the ski slopes. What more could you want after a hard day’s skiing?
Wellness at Private’s Lodge
A heated indoor swimming pool with integrated Jacuzzi seats and a shallow kids pool with plenty of loungers offers a great place to relax and unwind. A small gym with weights and exercise machines complements the wellness area.
For families with children a great bonus is the kids crèche open every day from 9am – 9pm and there is a kids club included in the price. A mini market offers staples such as milk, coffee, bread as well as some local specialities and souvenirs. The underground car park offers convenient access for all apartments and chalets and connects directly with the reception.
Dining at Priva Alpine Lodge
The apartments and chalets are self catered but there is a bar and lounge area (above) and an on-site restaurant run by Anglo – Swiss couple Lisa and Freddie with breakfast, lunch and dinner menus as well as coffees and snacks throughout the day – all with a welcoming smile. The menu offers a number of local Graubünden specialities in addition to international staples such as Caesar salad. The food comes beautifully garnished with generous portions of sides and a good wine list though we stuck to a local Pinot Noir which was very good. Every Friday there is live music.
The Lenzerheide Ski School
The Lenzerheide Ski School has an office within the on-site Sports Shop and with 32 years experience in ski instruction we could hardly go wrong with our ski-instructor Franz who was both patient and knowledgeable as he offered advice and tried to correct long-ingrained bad ski habits! Not only did he know the resort like the back of his hand but his interesting anecdotes kept us entertained throughout the day.
In fact there is plenty to do in the vicinity including a modern sports centre with an outdoor pool (35 degrees) – see photo below – with water jets, fitness classes, an ice rink and lots more.
We were disappointed that the day we visited the Arosa connection was closed due to high winds (something that can happen in any ski resort) but we managed to get a full day’s skiing by taking to the other mountain (Lenzerheide has 2 ski areas on opposite slopes) and afterwards, exhausted from the skiing there were plenty of apres-ski activities to choose from.
The Priva Alpine Lodge is modern, welcoming and friendly and has a great location right on the slopes. It’s just 2 minutes skiing away from the Rothorn ski-lifts and with a bus stop right outside the door. It is big enough to offer good facilities for the whole family, but small enough to care. Priva Alpine Lodge currently has a number of packages and special offers for both Winter and Summer. For full details of these and the weekly tariffs please go to the website.
The Lenzerheide Ski School offers both classes and individual tuition for both skiing and snowboarding and most of the instructors speak English. They also offer great selection of ski trips including “Earlybird” skiing, “Night Skiing” and “Full Moon Downhill skiing. The Lenzerheide Tourist Information has information on all the above as well as other offers.
So if you’re looking for stylish accommodation right next to the ski slopes in a beautiful location, why not take a look at Priva Alpine Lodge Lenzerheide?
