From Bürkliplatz to Wollishofen

A Perfect Weekend Walk Along Lake Zurich
If you’re looking for an easy Weekend Walk to do with family or friends this one is idea as you can combine it with a spot of shopping in town first and maybe go for a Sunday stroll. There are two versions of the walk – the longer one is where you start in Bürkliplatz and walk all around the lake to the wooden walkway at Wollishofen and then catch the bus back to central Zurich.
The Longer Walk
The longer walk is about 2.5km and takes you all round the lake basin to Wollishofen. You go past the Seebad Enge and all the boats docked at Mythenquai then carry on round to the Zurich Lake Club and along to Strandbad Mythenquai. From there you continue along the Seepromenade along Landiwiese to Wollishofen. This part of the walk should take you a good 30 minutes – depending on how often you stop to admire the view! 🙂
The Shorter Walk
The shorter one is perhaps good if you have elderly relatives or friends who don’t want to do as much walking and involves taking the bus (bus number 161 or 165) from the stop in Talstrasse (confusingly on the opposite side of Bürkliplatz) and getting off at the Wollishofen stop. You then take the passage underneath the road and go up the concrete staircase to start the walk which then continues on the wooden walkway.
Rote Fabrik and Street Art
Before stepping on to the wooden walkway you go past the Rote Fabrik with all its colourful Street Art and it’s a good place to stop back later for a coffee and a cake after your walk. You continue a little further until the walkway appears and simply follow it to the far side where all the boats are moored. It’s a short but pretty walk being a little way out on the lake gives you a real feeling of being on the water.
The views towards the mountains are impressive too.
Why not pop back to the café at Rote Fabrik afterwards and then take the 161 or 165 bus back to Zurich?

Start: Either at Bürkliplatz or Wollishofen bus stop
Finish: End at Wollishofen Wooden Walkway & back to Wollishofen bus stop
