Still no snow in Zurich but lots to keep you occupied thankfully! See below for some of the events in store in Zurich in the run up to Christmas and just beyond.

Christmas and New Year Shopping Update

Christmas Holidays – Many of you have been asking when the shops are open over the holidays. They stay shut on Thursday 25th December for Christmas Day, on Friday 26th for Boxing Day and they re-open on Saturday 27th (don’t miss the sales). They are then shut as usual on Sunday 28th and reopen again on Monday 29th December.

New Year Holidays – the shops will be closed on 1st January for New Year’s Day and on 2nd January (which is in fact a holiday) most shops will be open from 9am to 8pm. To see which shops are open on 2nd check here.

Christmas Events in Zurich – There are plenty of events taking place: the Singing Christmas Tree, the Märlitram for kids, candle dipping, See here for details of these & lots more so you don’t miss out.

Sunday Shopping in Zurich 21st December – yes, one last chance for Christmas Shopping on a Sunday. Most of the bigger shops will be open in the city on 21st from 11am (some from 10am) – 6pm but do check individual stores just in case.

Buying a Christmas tree – you can buy your own Christmas tree (grown in the woods in Zurich no less) from Stadtgärtnerei,  and at Werkhof Höngerberg and Forstgarten Albisgüetli you can even cut down your own tree on 20th and 21st December. If you’re looking for an FSC certified Christmas tree you can buy from these locations.  As well as from most larger supermarkets and DIY stores you can also buy one at right by the fountain outside Stadelhofen station from 14th December onwards.

Ice Skating – there are plenty of places to go ice skating in and around Zurich. KEK in Küsnacht is open until 14th March, the Dolder has a great rink and Live on Ice at the Hotel Sonne in Küsnacht until 8th February.
