Hiking Around Lake Obersee Near Näfels
If you fancy a light hike or even a Sunday afternoon stroll which is easy enough for all the family, a beautiful place not far from Zurich with fabulous scenery is Lake Obersee near Näfels. It’s a great place to go and visit anytime, but the best times to visit are Spring, Summer or Autumn. We visited a few weeks ago on a day when it had been raining all morning and despite the cloud in the sky it was still breath-taking.
Just over an hour or so from Zurich by car, the lake lies at the end of a windy, steep road which leads from Näfels to the summit. Once you get to the top there is the Bergrestaurant Obersee right on the lake and a car park with ample parking.
You can either choose the easy route by taking the short walk round the lake or continue further along the hiking paths beyond the top end of the lake. It’s a great place to take visitors and the lake offers beautiful views of Swiss nature and the water reflections are really stunning.
After a walk round the lake or a hike nearby you can always stop for coffee, lunch or dinner at the Berghotel Obersee to round off the day.
How to get there:
From Zurich we took the A52, A53 and A3 motorways and headed to the town of Näfels. Once in the centre of Näfels look for the signs to Oberseetal and follow till you get to the top. The road is fairly narrow in places – but it’s worth it when you get there!
The Berghotel Obersee’s address is Oberseestrasse 69, 8752 Näfels which you may also be able to use for your sat nav.

Hi Harpeet I went by car and there it’s quite a steep (and windy) journey to the top where the lake is. I couldn’t find how you would get there via public transport – but this is the google maps link: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Obersee/@47.0867586,9.0101212,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x478532b63332acd3:0xd299d54231354c4a!8m2!3d47.0873754!4d9.014455 I hope you manage to visit!
