Zurich is still luxuriating in high temperatures and sunny days. It can be a bit trying in offices without air conditioning – but it’s fabulous on the lake. There’s lots on in the city over the next few weeks – so take a look here for some ideas.

The Seenachtfest in Rapperswil takes place on 8th and 9th August

be sure to go along and experience this fun event with fireworks, music, food and drink and fly pasts and lots more.There is even a special boat you can go on to see the fireworks across the lake and enjoy the evening – see here for details of the boat and visit the website here to see the program of events.

Dolder Classic Cars Exhibition

the next Dolder Classics event is on 9th August at the Dolder Ice Rink. Great cars, fun for all the family and free to enter. The next one after August is 13th September.  More information here.

Rundfunk FM 17th July  –  14th August

Until 14th August Rundfunk.fm will be broadcasting and playing live from Geroldstrasse in Zurich. There will be lots of international djs and musicians and plenty of food and drink too. For more information (in German) about this free event see here.

The Limmat Swim is on 15th August (or 22nd August if it gets postponed)

enjoy a dip in the refreshing clear waters of the Limmat in a fun swim / float down the river right in the centre of  Zurich. It’s great fun and very well organised – but there is always more demand than capacity  – so don’t forget to book in advance on the Wednesday before the Saturday swim. Thai Food and Culture Festival in Bülach 21st – 23rd August

this event takes place from August 21st – 23rd and as well as offering lots of opportunities to sample Thai food, there is also Thai Sword dancing, Thai music and even an “elephant club” offering child care for your little ones. For more information see the website.

Coffee Friday at Kaufleuten 21st August

discover everything you ever wanted to about coffee at Kaufleuten on 21st August. It’s open from 10am till 9pm and entrance is free! A must for coffee lovers in Zurich. See here for more information.

Zürcher Theater Spektakel 6th – 23rd August 

continues in the fields at Zurich’s Landiwiese this outdoor theatre festival features some great acts as well as some shows in English. Lots of great food to eat in the open air too. More information here.

Zurich Openair 26th – 29th August

don’t miss Zurich’s big open air Summer music festival. Taking place in Kloten, close to Zurich airport there is a great line up and the event lasts 4 days. For more information and to see who’s playing see here.

Free Concerts at the Bäckeranlage until 3rd September

every Summer Stadt Zurich organises free concerts in the Bäckeranlage park in Zurich on Wednesday evenings. The best thing is that they are totally FREE!  To view the list of concerts see here.

Street Parade 29th August

the annual street party will be taking place on Saturday 29th August in the centre of Zurich. It’s Europe’s largest outdoor electronic music party. Roads will be closed and the people of Zurich (and lots of visitors who come specifically for this extravaganza) will be letting their hair down and having fun. With the motto “Enjoy the Dancefloor… and save it!”it starts at 13.00 and finishes at midnight. For more information see here. Or see some photos from a previous event here.

Super Kids Brunch Radio Day 30th August

take your kids along to a special radio day just for them at the Sheraton Four Points at Sihl City in Zurich on 30th August. There will be food, music, fun, face painting and lots more including a chance to speak live-on-air on the radio. See here for details.

a great place for young children to feed animals and take rides on elephants and ponies and have a lot of fun. For more information see here.

Montagsmarkt at Rimini – Every Monday Eve in Fine Weather

the swimming pool at Rimini is transformed every Monday evening into a lively market – the Mercatino Rimini. Here you can buy clothes, jewellery and lots more and have a drink or a bite to eat at the same time. Every Monday evening from 7.30pm until the 31st August – but only when the weather in fine! Exhibition on Swiss History at the Swiss National Museum  until 31st December 2015

there’s a great exhibition at the Swiss National Museum all about the history of Switzerland from its origins to the present day. “Geschichte Schweiz” exhibition deals with 4 different topics – 1) migration and settlement history; 2) Switzerland’s religious and spiritual history; 3) Swiss political history, and 4) the country’s economic development. Unfortunately part 1 is closed until 17th November but the rest is certainly worth going to see. For more information see here.

Fruit Picking at the Bächlihof Farm in Jona and at Jucker Farm

pick your own fruits and berries this Summer! It’s fun and the Bächlihof in Jona and the Jucker Farm have plenty of wonderful fruit for self-picking. See here for more information.

Salt Openair Cinema (formerly Orange) 

Salt Openair continues at the Zurichhorn by the lake until 16th August. You can buy tickets online see here for details and for the program.
