The other week we were invited to a “Nespresso Gourmet Weeks” event at the majestic Park Hotel Vitznau in Weggis. If you’ve never been there before this hotel is really spectacular – a beautiful hotel, stunning grounds, fabulous views from the lakeside and amazing food.

It’s a favourite place to take guests (in fact my mum’s favourite lunch location) and not too far from Zurich to make a great day out.

However on this particular Sunday night Nespresso were filming a commercial for their “Nespresso Gourmet Weeks” which are due to take place from 25th October  to 15th November 2015The Nespresso Gourmet weeks will feature 15 top notch Swiss restaurants which will be showcasing haute cuisine alongside top quality Grand Cru Nespresso coffee.

After some beautiful appetizers, including paté masquerading as Nespresso capsules and other beautifully presented starters, we then went for a tour behind the scenes of the Hotel Vitznau.

First of all we had a look at the cellar which houses some great champagne and wine.

Security is tight and access only was only via fingerprint.

We saw some amazingly special wines and champagnes and then headed to the kitchen. Alongside the kitchen is a “chef’s table” which can be booked for a group dinner allowing you a unique insight into the Hotel Vitznau kitchen.

We then toured the patisserie side of the kitchen where preparations were busily underway for a wedding and a multi-tiered cake was being prepared.

They also make their own chocolate truffles (which are divine – amazingly rich and decadent) and as we entered the room our nostrils were assailed by the aroma of freshly baked lemon cakes.

After the tour we took our seats at the hotel’s “Restaurant Prisma” and tucked into a wonderfully presented four course menu cooked by Michelin starred chef Christian Nickel.

We started with Foie Gras with Apricots and Hazelnuts, which was followed by Halibut with Beetroots and Truffles:

After that we had Veal with Sweetbreads, Chanterelle, and Artichokes with a touch of coffee.

The Nespresso Gourmet Weeks feature a number of top chefs and great restaurants. They include Heiko Nieder from The Restaurant of the Dolder Grand in Zurich, Jacky Donatz from Hotel Sonnenberg Zurich, Tanja Grandits from Restaurant Stucki in Basel, Silvia Manser from Restaurant Truube, Damien Germanier from Restaurant Damien Germanier in Sion, to mention but a few. The chef who prepared our meal at the Park Hotel Vitznau was Christian Nickel, below.

The special Nespresso Gourmet Weeks menus which have been created for this event are being offered at special prices of 70 CHF for lunch and 120 CHF for dinner – including, naturally, a cup of your favourite Nespresso coffee. All the chefs’ menus have been specially created to pair with the Nespresso Grand Crus coffees.

To coincide with the Gourmet Weeks two limited edition Nespresso capsules have been created with an Italian accent – Tribute to  Milano and Tribute to Palermo. These ristrettos are made with the finest Arabicas and Robustas and are now available to purchase at your local Nespresso boutique or online. A perfect ending to a great meal!
