Hair with Style – Pedro Sanchez Hair Zurich
One of the most important things when you move to a new city is to find a good hairdresser who can speak your language and understand what you want. Many expats in Zurich have been telling us about Pedro Sanchez so NewInZurich decided to head to the centre of Zurich and talk to manager Michael von Mentlen to find out a little more. Here’s what we discovered:
NIZ: How long have the Pedro Sanchez hair salons been in Zurich?
Michael: Pedro arrived in 2011 and opened “Pedro Sanchez Boutique Coiffeur” in May 2012 and “Le Salon by Pedro Sanchez” in 2013.
We always believe in having a welcoming and inviting salon for our clients to enjoy.
NIZ: Who is Pedro and why did he start up in Zurich?
Michael: Pedro is a very calm, easy going and discreet hairdresser. Growing up in Venezuela he was passionate about hairdressing and worked for a very prestigious salon, taking care of celebrities, first ladies and VIPS. When Jacqueline Aguilera won the Miss World Contest in South Africa in November 1995, she chose Pedro to become her personal stylist for the next 4 years. He then moved to New York, where he undertook further training and styled models for Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Magazine and top Fashion Shows in New York.
NIZ: What is Pedro’s philosophy for hairdressing?
Michael: Our philosophy is to reveal our clients’ natural beauty and make them even more beautiful. You don’t always need a complete change of colour or highlights, sometimes a simple cut can make all the difference. It’s also very important that our customers can manage their own hair at home. We listen to our clients, understand their needs and give them advice about colour and cuts. Our blow outs are fabulous and make you feel a million dollars!
We also offer nail services and try to give a “top to toe experience”. A new product which is extremely popular, is the new Olaplex treatment to give your hair the perfect condition and finish. We simply want our clients to look and feel their best. We also have stylists who specialise in dealing with curly hair, thick hair and very fine hair too. We always try to match the stylist with the right client.
NIZ: What events do you run?
Michael: We run a variety of events in our salons. With our exclusive brand Leonor Greyl we offer a free scalp analysis event once a year using a special camera. We’re then able to advise you on the correct shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Our product range is very exclusive enabling us to find the perfect product for each person’s hair.
NIZ: We understand you have a multi-lingual team?
Michael: Our team is very international and they speak several different languages. It really helps us to understand our clients’ needs making us very popular with the Expat community in Zurich. Our service is extremely personalized and all our staff are very well trained, attending regular courses to keep up with all the latest international techniques and trends.
NIZ: You’re involved in some very prestigious events and a member of Leading Salons of the World.
Michael: We styled Max Loong and his fiancée for the Zurich Film Festival and we regularly style the hair of other VIP clients. We also run exclusive fashion shows in the Maldives and of course, it is a great honour for us to be a member of the very exclusive hairdressing circle “Leading Salons of the World”.
NIZ: Do you do “bridal hair” ?
Michael: We have great experience styling brides and Pedro takes great care to ensure our team meets his high standards so that the bride looks her absolute best on her big day. We make sure that the hair, make-up and nail colour all fit with the dress, the bride’s skin tone and the whole ensemble. Pedro also runs the hair show at the Hochzeitsmesse (wedding show) in Zurich.
NIZ: Do you do men’s hair?
Michael: Men are very important for us too and they need to look good for business. We have treatments, shampoos and conditioners specially designed for men. Our relaxing head massages are extremely popular and we offer a male product range so that our clients can re-create the salon feeling at home.
NIZ: We understand you also offer hairdressing services in other locations too?
Michael: We’ve been providing Pedro Sanchez hair dressing services at The Chedi Hotel in Andermatt during the Winter season since December 2014. It’s a unique place in the Swiss Alps to relax, enjoy Winter sports and of course be pampered from head to toe! From December 2015, we have been offering hair dressing at the Per Aquum Niyama Hotel a unique 5-star hotel in the beautiful Maldives.
