Scones and Jam

A Taste of England with the Refinement of Zurich

Nestled inside the charming suburb of Seefeld, there is a charming little tea room. It offers a bounty of different tastes in its afternoon tea. As you step in you are greeted by various colours that delight the eye. Flour Power Cupcakes labels itself as a “shabby chic tea room and cupcake shop” that offers an afternoon tea that cannot be easily found outside of a tea room in England. Indeed, having sampled it,  I now know that FlourPower Zurich are providing the ultimate English Afternoon Tea is in Switzerland!

The shop is furnished with an array of furniture and artefacts and each item on show is for sale, which means you can take more than just a full stomach home! The experience is made better by seeing the beautiful designs on the cupcakes, each one looks like it took real craftsmanship to make. Much like the furniture, you can order special cakes and cupcakes for any event. Each element in the shop is a feast for the eyes.

The shop only has three tables so be sure to book afternoon tea in advance. There are 8 types of tea available, from the Standard English breakfast special teas like white peony. The teas compliment the feast that you are given. In fact we didn’t want to start eating at first because the food looked too good to eat.

The étagère arrived with 8 finger sandwiches per person. Each one being traditionally British but with a certain refinement that only Zurich could give. This is then followed by a stack of fresh scones, served with strawberry and raspberry jam and homemade clotted cream. It is so satisfying to tuck into a scone, while drinking lovely tea, surrounded by eye catching items that you can take home afterwards. Every member of the party agreed the petite beauty of the place made it highly unique, especially in Zurich.

Our last course, sitting high on top of the plate were the cupcakes. They are a subtle blend of sweetness and lightness as they are neither too sweet nor too heavy. Each cupcake had its own distinct taste and each was delicious.
