A Relaxing Break at the Hotel Park Weggis
A weekend of R & R in Weggis
If you’re ever feeling in need of a break or just a place to unwind and relax there’s no better place than the Hotel Park Weggis. It was our third visit and our second stay at the hotel, when we visited a couple of weeks ago and there’s a reason we keep going back… it’s just so beautiful and so relaxing.
Situated on the beautiful shores of the Vierwaldstättersee (or Lake Lucerne), the Hotel Park Weggis is a 5 star superior hotel which is friendly and relaxing and not at all stuffy. The staff are amazing and helpful and the views, the tranquility, the facilities and the restaurants are second to none. There are 52 rooms and suites and all are elegantly furnished and beautifully equipped.
Weggis the Riviera of Central Switzerland
The area around Weggis which is located on an isolated promontory, benefits from an usually warm micro-climate where even olives are grown. It has been known for many years as a health resort and as the “Rivieria of Central Switzerland”. There are certainly palm trees in abundance and the whole area has a calming feel of relaxation and well-being about it, which is echoed at the hotel.
Arriving one rainy Friday evening we were warmly welcomed at the reception and shown up to our room. We were in the Queen Victoria Suite which was spacious and well-equipped and commanded spectacular views of the lake and the mountains – even in the rain – but particularly the next morning as the sun began to shine. It was such a joy to wake up to this view!
Saturday’s breakfast was plentiful with a wide variety of cold meats, cheese, yogurts, cereals, freshly baked bread and the hotel’s own honey, supplemented by a substantial hot menu which included delicious scrambled, fried or poached eggs and other cooked items along with a continuous supply of hot coffee and tea. Breakfast is taken in the large dining room which is large and airy with lovely views across the lake.
Stand Up Paddle Board or Canoe on the Lake
After going for an exploratory walk around the area and into the village of Weggis we strolled along the hotel’s private beach and took out one of their Stand Up Paddle Boards and went exploring by water. The lake was calm as a mill pond and it felt extremely mild for October.
The Spa Cottage and Gym, Pool and Library
Next we went to along to discover the delights of the Spa Cottage. It’s the ultimate in relaxation in a private space with your own sauna and plunge pool, along with a waterbed, relaxing music and tea and snacks. Enabling you to totally unwind, it’s a fabulous plus and a real asset for the hotel.
If too much relaxation is not your thing, there is also a gym, a heated (32 degrees) 15 metre outdoor swimming pool and a library to exercise both your body and your mind.

Park Grill Steak Restaurant
After all the exertions of the day, it was time to head for dinner. A stop for a drink at the Lalique Caviar Bar with its views across the hotel garden and lake is something you might want to consider particularly if you are there at sunset.
We had dinner at the Park Grill and it was really impressive. The steaks we had were first rate and beautifully cooked. We chose the grass-reared organic steak and the T-bone. Cooked to perfection, they were so, so tender and had a wonderful smokey barbecue taste. Totally fabulous and the best steaks we have had for a while!
They were preceded by wonderful starters of prawns with mango, and lobster and salad. We chose local Swiss wine to accompany the meal which was available from a wide selection by the glass as well as by the bottle. The desserts looked impressive, but after such wonderful starters and mains we were replete.

The hotel is located in a beautiful setting and consists of two older buildings and a modern extension, where the spa and gym are situated, all of which are seamlessly melded together. There is also a Japanese garden outside the spa area.
Excursions and Things To Do
If you fancy exploring the region from Park Weggis there is plenty to do. Situated right on the lake there are boat rides you can take across the lake to Lucerne and beyond. You might also want to go up Mount Rigi with is just a short drive away or hike along the many walking trails close by. The village of Weggis has a certain charm with cute little tea rooms and a few quaint shops and restaurants and is a lovely walk from the hotel.
The ambience at Park Weggis is one of restfulness, understated luxury and total relaxation. The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. So if you fancy a relaxing and luxurious getaway, why not head over to the hotel for a short break that’s a world away from the buzz of city life yet under an hour away from Zurich?
