Christmas Markets Guide Zurich and Switzerland 2019
It’s getting colder in Zurich and there is already snow in the mountains. The Lucy Christmas Lights are turned on on Thursday 21st November at 6pm and the late night shopping kicks off straight after with the shops staying open until 10pm. Many of the Zurich Christmas Markets open their doors on 21st November too – see details below.
So now is the time for the Christmas Markets all over Switzerland to welcome you with a Glühwein and lots of seasonal fare. Each Christmas Market has its own character and specialities – so don’t just visit one! Visit as many as you can 🙂
We’ve listed the key Christmas Markets in Zurich and Switzerland for Christmas 2018 below. So take along your friends and indulge and enjoy!
This popular Christmas market featuring around 100 stalls located right in front of the Opera House and Bellevue, is taking place at Sechselaeutenplatz again this year. One of the many highlights are the food and refreshments. Special features include an ice skating rink right in front of the Opera House and a beautiful Fondue Stübli in the Chalet by the tree. It’s so cosy you might not want to leave.

Thursday 21st November 2019 is the datewhen approximately 150 of the shops in the centre of Zurich will stay open late till 10pm. It kicked off with the “Lucy” Christmas lights being switched on at 6pm. Do pop down to Bahnhofstrasse to see Zurich’s beautiful Christmas lights!
Christmas Shopping Sundays Zurich 2019
The three “Christmas Shopping Sundays” for 2019 in Zurich are as follows:
1st December 11am – 6pm
8th December 11am – 6pm
22nd December 11am – 6pm
Around500 shops will open in the centre of Zurich. Out of town stores may have different dates for example see details for: Glatt Shopping Centre open on the following Sundays: 24th Nov and 8th, 22nd December 2019 10am – 6pm) and Volikland on Sunday 15th December 2019 from 10am – 6pm.
Please note that shops are CLOSED on Christmas Day, Boxing Day (Stephantag) and New Year’s Day.
