Joanne Finnegan Artist
and Mountain Painter
Joanne Finnegan moved to Switzerland from the UK in 2007 and it’s during her time here that she has really developed her love of the Swiss Mountains and at the same time emerged as a talented and well respected Swiss Mountain artist. In 2016, she was accepted into the “Guild of Swiss Mountain Artists”.
Originally settled in Meilen on the Gold Coast of Zurich she has now moved to Zug and is now even closer to her beloved mountains. “The Swiss mountains represent so much for me”, she says as she explains that despite being scared of heights, and unable to climb up or ski down them, she feels a real affinity and connection to them. Her aim is to capture their majesty and splendour on canvas for all to see.
Earlier in 2016 she had the honour of having one of her paintings accepted for admission to the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2016. The painting chosen was: The Interlaken Eiger.
The Interlaken Eiger, was made using an old Swiss map as the canvas to create a mixed media collage. In fact the maps themselves were old printed Swiss maps from the mountain’s region making it even more interesting and this is a technique that Joanne has adopted for many of her recent mountains paintings.
As a result of showing her paintings at the Royal Academy, Joanne has attracted a lot of interest both in the UK, Switzerland and further afield, and she is currently building up her portfolio of paintings which she is selling online.
However, you may be interested to know that she also undertakes commissions – not just for mountains, but lakes and scenery too. In fact if you are thinking of a Christmas or birthday present what could be more meaningful or personal than a painting of something very dear to you?
