Photos of Snow Polo St Moritz
Snow Polo is synonymous with St Moritz and this is where the first snow polo tournament took place back in 1985. Since then the town has played host to the world’s pre-eminent snow polo tournament every year.
Located in a unique and magical setting, the St Moritz Snow Polo World Cup is the only “high goal” polo tournament played on snow. It attracts locals and people from all over the world alike and the last weekend in January is a very special date in the calendar for all enthusiasts.
It’s also a very glamorous venue. Luxury brands like Maserati, below, are paraded on the frozen lake.
Restaurants set up along the periphery of the lake serve gourmet food, whilst champagne corks pop all around. Add a little sunshine to the proceedings and the location of the frozen lake is truly sensational.
Photographer Geoff Pegler went down to St Moritz to capture some of the thrills and spills of the event and has taken all the photos in this article.
The skill of the sportsmen and horses is clear for all to see as they whizz across the ice in pursuit of the red ball.
So if you are interested in attending St Moritz Snow Polo it always takes place the last weekend in January.
