Impressions of the Newly Renovated
Storchen Zurich
#followthestorchen
True to Swiss precision, and exactly 6 1/2 weeks after commencing work, the newly renovated Storchen Hotel Zurich opened its doors for business again on Monday 20th February 2017.
The Hotel whose history dates back to 1357, is one of Zurich’s most well know institutions. The only hotel to Zurich have its own boat stop, it has undergone a major update and new look. Even the main entrance has moved and is no longer in Weinplatz but it now faces the river. The hotel is now hoping to become a 5 star hotel, up from 4 stars and this will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The fact that it was completed on time meant that Hotel Director Jörg Arnold and Project Manager for the construction, Patric Meier, did not have to jump into the waters of the Limmat – something they had promised had the hotel not met its deadline! So a fabulous photo opportunity was missed! However, we did manage to have a peek inside and a tour of the hotel to see the beautiful new décor …
Under the direction of Interior Designers Christoph Cavigelli and Ina Rinderknecht, the whole of the downstairs and reception area is lighter, brighter and more welcoming. Splashes of green contrast with the warm golden hues and the stork is very much in evidence.
Even the bar area has had a revamp but it still remains one of the best spots in Zurich to have a “cüpli” as you watch the world go by.
The cigar room retains its “olde worlde” feel with the wood and the leather seating.
Head chef Freddie Nussbaum together with his second in command, Cyrille Anizan, have a great line up of new culinary creations to tempt you with in the restaurant which offers incomparable views over the Limmat towards the Rathaus and the Grossmunster, and the service here is as efficient as ever.
Upstairs the bedrooms are bright and airy and the riverside ones boast drop dead gorgeous views over the Limmat. You feel that you could almost dive in!
And wherever you go within the hotel, you’re never far from the “Storchen”.
So why not “follow the Storchen” and visit the newly renovated Storchen Zurich.
