CHOCOLAT SUISSE DEPUIS 1887
You may well heard of “Chocolate Frey AG” and have probably seen it in your local Migros. This well known brand of Swiss chocolate has a factory based in Buchs in the Swiss Canton of Aargau – and what’s more it also has a Visitor Centre where you can make your own chocolate!
The company was founded in 1887 by brothers Max and Robert Frey, but since 1950 it has been part of the the Chocolate Frey AG Migros Group – ‘CHOCOLAT SUISSE DEPUIS 1887’.
Carmen was invited to try her hand at Easter bunny making, an activity that takes place in the Frey visitor centre every year just before Easter.
Chocolate Bunny or Chocolate Bar?
When you arrive the first choice you have to make is whether to create a chocolate bunny or design you own chocolate bar. Carmen went for the first option and had to choose from three different types of chocolate- milk, dark or white chocolate – and from more than 15 different additional ingredients: coffee, almonds, raspberries, hazelnuts, salted caramel.
Interactive Exhibition
There’s an interactive exhibition which tells you all about the history and making of chocolate and the presenters are Chocolat Frey employees. They also tell the story of the company history and you can see how the range of chocolate they offer has developed over the years. An important feature is that according to their press information, “Chocolate Frey uses cocoa from sustainable development and produced in dignified working conditions with respect for the environment.”
More than Chocolate
There are plenty of other attractions at the Visitor Centre to keep you busy – there’s a café, a photo booth for sending pictures of your chocolate master pieces to your friends via email as well as a copious tasting of the various different chocolates from the Frey assortment. There’s even an aroma laboratory and of course a shop with a huge selection of Frey products and souvenirs.
So how did Carmen get on? Well she successfully completed her bunny – see the picture below. The question is, will it last until Easter?
So get cracking and why not make your own chocolate masterpiece in time for Easter! If you don’t manage to you can always check out the latest collection from Chocolate Frey at your local Migros.
