The Helvti Bellevue Diner – Burgers & More in Downtown Zurich
There’s a new restaurant in Zurich – the Helvti Diner Bellevue. Located very centrally just off Bellevue, it’s already proving a very popular food destination. We visited the first weekend after opening and the place was buzzing!
The restaurant is located in what was the old Milchbar, but it has been transformed with beautiful greens and pinks and the clever use of mirrors to become a fresh, bright and light venue. With wooden floors, sumptuous green upholstery and a “2017 take” on the 50s American diner concept, it is a welcome addition to Zurich’s restaurant scene.
We went at 2pm on a Sunday when both the Brunch menu is running alongside the classic menu. Three of us chose brunch options – whilst one of us went for the vegetarian burger.
There are so many items on the brunch menu it is difficult to know what to choose. We opted for the “Fruity” and the “Green Machine” smoothies to begin with and they were freshly pressed, fruity and delicious, and a cup of tea.
There was bircher muesli on offer, a selection of delicious sounding pancakes, yogurts, fresh fruit salads, muffins, porridge and all sorts of temptations. We opted for scrambled eggs with English muffin, tomato, crispy bacon and guacamole, which was served with mustard and cress (billed as “pepperweed” on the English menu!).
The other two “brunchers” chose eggs benedict with salmon and guacamole. Tip: if you know how you like your eggs do state whether you would like them runny or “just set” as they will aim to cater to your requirements. The flavours were delicious – the bacon was nicely crisped and the guacamole was wonderful.
The vegetarian burger was declared superb and juicy, and not in the least dry which is sometimes the case with veggie burgers. In addition to the vegetarian, there are three other burgers on offer – the Swiss Premium, the Classic Angus and the Wagyu special and prices range from CHF 16.50 to CHF 32.50.
The beef is Swiss sourced from Holzenfleisch where they are well known for their good husbandry and welfare of their cattle.
There’s a whole range of salad bowls and various options and add-ons to choose from and we plumped for chilli cheese fries and chilli poppers to share.
Each was delicious. The only little gripe we had was that the delay in being served our food was longer than desirable. However, the very helpful waiting staff apologised explaining that they had been taken aback by the volume of customers that very first Sunday, and considering it was their first weekend I’m sure they will quickly get on top of this.
Beautiful Bar Area
We drank filter coffee and smoothies but there is a whole range of alcoholic drinks available too. The large bar area is welcoming and bright whith large comfy bar chairs and you can simply go to have a drink and choose from a selection of cocktails, beers and more.
In fact in the end we were tempted to try the Hürliman hell, the Hürlimann Amber and the Brooklyn Scorcher IPA and the latter really won our vote!
We had a great meal at Helvti Bellevue and will definitely be back. Reservations are essential – as this is proving to be a new “go-to food destination” in Zurich.
