Alpine Chic and Wellness at
Bergspa Hotel La Val Brigels
Beautiful Graubünden
Bergspa Hotel La Val is situated in the picturesque surroundings of Graubünden. Just two and a quarter hours by train from the centre of Zurich, or a couple of hours drive, the hotel lies on a high plateau above the town of Brigels.
A superb location with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, the hotel is just a short ride with the hotel shuttle up the valley from the train station. At an altitude of approximately 1,300m, the hotel lies in the heart of the holiday and golf region of Surselva.
The Management Team Marcel and Cornelia David
The managers, Marcel and Cornelia David, are super friendly and just can’t do enough for you. They describe the hotel as “Alpine Chic”, and as you approach it, this becomes abundantly clear. It is styled in the manner of a traditional Swiss chalet, with all the comforts of a modern mountain hotel and a fabulous spa on top!
Everything is beautifully designed, simply laid out and tastefully decorated from the lobby area to the cigar lounge and library, to the bar and restaurant.
The Friendly Welcome
What becomes clear is that you are the staff’s main priority as soon as you walk through the door and without exception all the staff were kind, friendly and courteous throughout. The passionate owners take a hands-on approach making you feel like you are a guest in their own home. Each member of staff did all they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable and the hospitality is warm and genuine.
The Rooms
The rooms are furnished with wood of all types to give a traditional feel, and a variety of alpine touches and decorations.
Equipped with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee machines and mountain-view balconies they are both relaxing and cozy. The hotel suites like the one below, offer luxurious and romantic touches like the in-room bath tub and a fireplace.
Gourmet Cuisine with Chef Rudolf Möller
From the bountiful breakfast all the way through to lunch and dinner the food was delicous!
We enjoyed sampling the excellent gourmet cuisine of talented chef Rudolf Möller – and it did not disapoint!
Herr Möller specialises in making each ingredient deliver its full culinary potential, nothing is overdressed or fighting with other flavours, just high quality local produce beautifully prepared with wonderful taste. The food itself is locally grown where possible and it was simply but beautiful presented.
Above are some of the delicious treats taken with afternoon tea in the library.
Great Spa Facilities
A huge attraction of the hotel, particularly in our case when the sun didn’t shine during our stay, was the beautiful spa. The wellness facilities continue the Alpine theme with a mix of local slate and wood creating a modern yet Swiss feel. The blue pool, although small, was the best place to relax and enjoy a touch or R+R.
Steam Baths
There are also a selection of steam baths on offer to rejuvenate body and mind. From a relaxing steam bath to the “Bogn d’eucaliptus” eucalyptus sauna, (which apparently is great your respiratory tract and refreshing for skin and hair), to the “Caldarium” which offers mild heat and relaxation as it cleanses, to the “Hydro-massage shower” – a special kind of shower with hot, tingling cascades and various settings. It’s all just super relaxing!
First Class Massages and Treatments
Whether you’ve been hiking up the mountains, skiing in the nearby mountains in Winter, or simply chilling out, a great massage gets rid of all those knots and last bits of tension. Linda gave us an amazing “Kräuterstempel” massage which uses local herbs and flowers and was really relaxing and invigorating at the same time.
Overall, the hotel delivered above and beyond our expectations. Nestled in a little corner of Graubunden it’s a hotel that will leave guests feeling refreshed and invigorated. A combination of great setting, great food and great spa, coupled with friendly and attentive staff make make for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The memory of the Bergspa Hotel La Val’s wonderful hospitality will stay with you and this little gem of a hotel is a firm recommendation for the future and we look forward to our next opportunity to visit.
