Disaster Risk Reduction – Saving Lives
The Swiss Red Cross is devoted to providing relief and help in disaster stricken areas all over the world, like the recent situation in the Philippines. Money for the projects is raised in a variety of ways and one of these is via the Swiss Red Cross Gala Dinners.
The 2017 Swiss Red Cross Gala Dinner took place at the Hotel Dolder Grand on Saturday 2nd September . Attended by 300 guests it raised an astonishing CHF 630,000, which will be used in continuing the valuable work the association carries out and in particular to help improve the lives of the people of Cayan Province and of a total of 200,000 families in the Philippines. The Swiss Red Cross has already built 3,000 houses there, but still many families don’t have a roof over their heads.
The Gala is held every 2 years at the Dolder Grand and money is raised via a live auction, a silent auction and a tombola. The motto for this year’s Gala is “Disaster Risk Reduction – Saving Lives”.
The gala committee headed by Hilda Burger-Calderón, pictured next to Swiss Red Cross President Annemarie Huber-Hotz, is responsible for putting together the gala dinner program. Pictured too are Linda Lamprecht, Marilo Illy, Amaya Albers-Schönberg, Astrid von Stockar, Yogini Minissale-Kakar and Clarissa Zehnder. Sasha Prenosil, also member of the SRC Charity Board Comitee, was not present at the gala evening.

After the charity auction which featured wonderful prizes, there was a live performance by Hot Chocolate, followed later by DJ Luke J lite.

The main sponsor is Credit Suisse and the event was supported by a variety of businesses large and small, as well as individuals from far and wide. The guests enjoyed wonderful hospitality and an evening of fund raising and entertainment until the early hours.
Marco Illy, Chairman Corporate and Investment Banking Credit Suisse Switzerland, an ardent supporter of the Swiss Red Cross for over 10 years, who addressed the audience to highlight some of the key work the Red Cross has been engaged in all over the world.
