I love gadgets so when I was invited to test out the latest model of the Gtech AirRam cordless vacuum cleaner I jumped at the chance.

In Switzerland it’s Good to Have a Great Vacuum

In Switzerland many people live in open plan apartments with what sometimes seems like acres and acres of either ceramic tiles or wood flooring to hoover. The main problem with a traditional vacuum cleaner is that so often the cables are simply not long enough. You end up trailing leads all over the floor and tripping over endless extension cables. With some of the cordless vacuums on the market too often the battery life doesn’t allow you to complete the job. On hearing that the Gtech AirRam is not only cordless but also boasts an extremely long battery life – up to 40 minutes – long enough to deal with most apartments – I was very intrigued!

Lightweight, Cordless with A Good Battery Life

As well as wanting a cordless vacuum with a great battery life, I’m also looking for one that is lightweight and easy to lift. My last cordless “Stick” vacuum was good – apart from one thing which really let it down – the battery life was awful.

The Gtech AirRam vacuum is a cross between a stick cleaner and an upright cylinder and despite its extra stature it still is much lighter than a conventional vacuum and so much easier to carry around. This is an important aspect if you have back problems or simply don’t like lugging round a heavy machine and in this respect the AirRam ticks all the boxes. With up to 40 minutes charge for vacuuming it also means you can clean the whole apartment in one go.

The removable battery

Easy To Assemble

It is super easy to put together as all the components arrive in one cardboard box and the instructions (for once in Switzerland!) come in English. I timed myself and managed to put it together in under 2 minutes! The only thing left to do is to charge the square battery – as unlike other cleaners, the battery comes out and is charged independently of the vacuum. I left it overnight (though it only needs 4 hours for a full charge) and then popped it in in the morning. The advantage is that you can store the vacuum wherever you want to – you’re not dependant on having it located by a electricity plug, for example. There’s a little knack to fitting the battery – but once you’ve done it the first time, it’s very easy to do again.

AirRam’s Cool Features

The AirRam is a very versatile cordless cleaner and has some very cool features. It has little lights at the front which enable you to see dust in low lit situations or in corners and it has a very clever bin which enables you to empty it without getting your hands dirty. I know this sounds a small thing but emptying the bin with the lever down the side then flicking the base open is just so much easier and more convenient than emptying my old stick.

AirLoc Technology

One of the key facets of the AirRam’s technology is what they call “AirLoc” technology – it is this which allows it to powerfully pick up all types of dust and dirt. I found it very good on all types of fine dust as well as crumbs – certainly just as good if not better than my previous machine. It also cleans right up to the edges – something I was worried it wouldn’t do.

AirRam in Action

The AirRam is extremely manoeuvrable and powerful yet so light to push that it almost moves by itself. It has a brush which whips up the dirt which is then sucked in to the bin and works well on wooden, floors, tiled floor and on carpet. In fact it glides across from one surface to another without you having to change the settings or anything. The only thing it doesn’t work on is shag pile rugs – as the strands are too long. On normal carpet and rugs though and dealing with different types of dirt it did a great job of picking everything up.

Build Quality

The build quality is sturdy and it feels robust. It’s not as light as a stick but it only weighs 3.5kg and it’s so much lighter than a normal vacuum.

Gtech guarantees the AirRam for two years. Once a month you should take the filter out and rinse it – and I’ve heard that this regular maintenance is the key to it lasting a long time – so I will make sure I do this.Reviewing the GTech AirRam Vacuum Cleaner

The AirRam is a British invention created by Nick Grey and Gtech in the UK. So far they have sold over 22 million products in 19 countries and their mission to create uncomplicated, easy to use products, to make your life easier. When their first AirRam was launched the UK Newspaper Daily Mail ran a story asking “Is this the best vacuum cleaner ever?” and praised the vacuum by awarding it a 10/10 rating. The product has been approved by the Good Housekeeping Institute, gets 5 out of 5 stars from Trustpilot, and the company was also a winner of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the UK.Reviewing the GTech AirRam Vacuum Cleaner

I really like the Gtech AirRam. For me the best things are that it’s easy to use, easy and clean to empty, very light, cordless and with a great battery life. I have long rooms to hoover with wooden floors and not as many electrical sockets as I’d like – so it is really frustrating to use a normal vacuum and to keep stopping to plug and unplug as you move through the rooms. Also if you have to carry it down the stairs it’s really easy as it’s so light and you don’t have to worry that the battery will conk out any minute. All this combined with the fact that it feels like you’re using a “real” hoover to do your floors really wins me over!
