The Year 2017 In Review for NewInZurich
Part 1 January to June 2017
*** NewInZurich at Home and On The Road ***
2017 was a busy year for NewInZurich with lots of travel – all over Zurich, across Switzerland and abroad. Here are some photo highlights of the places we visited in 2017.
January
The New Year Fireworks in Zurich in 2017 were as beautiful as ever and the crowds came out to admire the colourful display.
Our first expedition was to the beautiful area of Grindelwald where we went skiing and visited the fabulous Jungfraujoch.

Another January highlight was NewInZurich photographer Carmen’s visit to the Silvesterkläuse celebrations in Appenzell.

In Zurich we enjoyed eating fondue in an Igloo with a view on the rooftop terrace of the Hotel Ambassador a L’Opera.
We also enjoyed the snow in Zurich and the impressive icicles covering the fountains like this one just off Bahnhofstrasse.
Over in St Moritz Geoff was taking photos of the Snow Polo event.
We also visited the Belle Epoque festival at Kandersteg where the Victorian theme is the way to dress.
Next we travelled to France and stayed at the stunningly beautiful Villa René Lalique where we were bowled over by the tranquility of the hotel, the wonderful Lalique creations and chef Jean-Georges Klein’s amazing food.
In Geneva the Miss Earth Schweiz contest was taking place and was won by the lovely Sarah Laura Peyrel.
February
In February we were entranced by Art On Ice and NewInZurich photographer Geoff Pegler photographed both Zurich Davos performances, capturing some amazing photos.

We went skiing in Davos and stayed at the newly renovated Hotel Spenglers which has now been transformed into the Hard Rock Hotel Davos.

We also visited St Moritz to see the FIS World Championships.
Whilst there we had a go on the famous Muottas Muragl tobogganing course – this one is seriously fast! Not for beginners 🙂
March
The famous Zytglogge Bern
In March we discovered the delights of Bern and Lugano, staying at three wonderful hotels – the Bellevue Palace Hotel and the Hotel Schweizerhof Bern and the Hotel Splendide Royal in Lugano. We loved exploring both cities and the Zentrum Paul Klee and the LAC in Lugano were great cultural highlights.

We also made our first trip close to Rütli Meadow where in 1291 the famous oath of eternal alliance was signed by Switzerland’s three founding cantons – Schwyz, Uri and Unterwalden. This was where TAG Heuer were launching their latest watch and we took a boat trip on the beautiful lake admiring the stunning scenery in this very picturesque part of the country.
April
The town of Ascona
In April we visited the beautiful area of Ascona in Ticino and stayed at the wonderful Hotel Eden Roc situated directly on Lake Maggiore and the stylish Hotel Giardino Ascona.
Back in Zurich, April is the month of the celebration of Sechselaeuten and the burning of the Böögg and the whole city is in festive mood.
We next flew to Kiev to see the preparations for the Eurovision Contest and got to visit behind the scenes at the Eurovision site shortly before the competition took place. We had a tour of the city, saw the amazing Easter Egg Exhibiton and even met the mayor.

We also revisited Ticino this month and were awestruck by the beauty of the area around Valle Verzasca.

May
In May Zurich was looking resplendent in the sunshine and we enjoyed a few hikes around the region.
June
June is always a great time to explore the city as the temperatures climb a little and it gets ready for high Sumer.
During the middle of the month we travelled to Turkey for a week where we had an excellent stay at the Hotel Sianji Wellbeing Resort in Bodrum.

Back in Zurich it was also time to enjoythe Badis, hike in the surrounding mountains and of course view the amazing sunsets on Lake Zurich.
