Farmy Online Shopping – Bringing The Farm to You
Have you heard of Farmy.ch and Farmy+? Having seen the name around Zurich, I hadn’t actually used the service myself but was very intrigued when I was invited to take part in a trial of the service. In testing it out, I also got to find out about the very latest iteration of the service – the brand new Farmy +, which offers even more “eco credentials” than the original service. Read on to find out more …
What is Farmy?
Well Farmy is basically an online shop across the while of Switzerland where you can buy high quality, fresh, regional produce directly from the farmer or producer. You can see where your eggs, meat and vegetables are coming from – you can even see pictures of the farm and the farmer in many cases!
Farmy.ch offers more than 8,000 hand selected products from over 600 producers, and they deliver them to their customers all over Switzerland. The way their logistics work, the food is fresh, travels less and the service saves you time and effort. Moreover they have many organic items and a special vegan selection too.
Farmy is basically the electronic link between you and the farmer and they arrange transport from the farm right to your door.
How Does It Work?
You can order from your computer or download the Farmy App for your smartphone. Then you simply set up a username and password on the Farmy.ch website. Next choose the goods you would like to purchase, find a convenient time slot and pay online. The webpage is in English as well as German, French and Italian and the website very easy to navigate. Beneath each item it tells you where it comes from and you can click for more information.
Farmy + New Farmy.ch App & Eco Delivery
Since 10th April 2018 you can now use the Farmy App to order on your smart phone. Just make sure you change the language to English if you need to! You simply click on the three lines on the top left hand side to change language and a drop down box appears as in the photo below.
Placing Your Order
Once you have placed your order you choose a convenient time slot. I booked a 2 hour slot for the following day and my order arrived exactly in the middle of my 2 hour window. The large lamb rack was wrapped in a cool bag (with 2 small freeze blocks to keep it fresh) and my eggs were in an egg box in a paper bag.
If you are not in when they deliver they will leave the goods in front of your door – or you make an alternative arrangement at the time of ordering.
I could see that not only that the eggs were free range and organic, but even which farm they came from.
Farmy + A New Service in Zurich
Farmy+ is a brand new service and currently just available in the following areas of Zurich:

Eco Friendly Trucks and No Delivery Charge
Farmy+ offers delivery via environmentally friendly electric trucks as the company is committed to creating a healthy food supply ecosystem. Shopping with Farmy+ helps protect the environment by saving on CO2 emissions, and saves you money by having no delivery charge. Farmy + informs you of your delivery by SMS with information on which courier will deliver to you and when, within a +/- 15 minutes range.
If the trial in Zurich is successful it will be rolled out further in the future.
More Than Food
The other thing you might be interested to know is that Farmy.ch also sell wine, beers, milk as well as bulky household items like washing powder, toilet paper, kitchen roll and cleaning products. I can see this being particularly useful as if your don’t have a car, or are elderly or maybe if you are sick – you can order these products along with your high quality fresh foods at the same time.
There is a minimum order value of CHF 50 and I can understand this from an environmental point of view as it is much better to make fewer trips – so it is an incentive to plan your purchases too.
Benefits of Farmy
First of all, you’re getting high quality, fresh and local foods – meat, eggs, vegetables, cheese etc. You know where they come from, and they are delivered to your door at a time of your choosing. What is even better, is that you’re supporting small producers and local farmers. In this world of mass production, it brings back a connection to the land and the region you’re living in.
Try Farmy for yourself (and get free delivery)
I found Farmy very intuitive and easy to use and I liked knowing where my produce came from and the friendly service to the doorstep. I will definitely be using it again.
