Autumn Glory at Blausee Switzerland
One of the most beautiful places in Switzerland surely has to be Blausee. When I first wrote about it back in 2012 it seemed at the time a bit of a “hidden gem”. However, over the intervening years it has become a very popular hotspot. Instagram has most probably played a large part in boosting its popularity, but if you haven’t yet visited this little lake its definitely worth an excursion.
The beautiful walk to the lake from the entrance
It’s a wonderful place to visit any time of year but Autumn has got to be one of the most special times. The colours are so beautiful and vivid with the golds and oranges contrasting with the turquoise water. It really looks magical. On a sunny day it’s particularly spectacular.
You can take a trip in the the little glass bottomed boat across the lake – it’s actually included in the ticket price!
It’s a good idea to make it a full day trip from Zurich as you need to change trains once or twice and then take the bus. Going by car it is slightly quicker but still takes over 2 hours. Although the lake is small and the whole area doesn’t take that long to explore they serve great lunches at the restaurant by the lake (trout is their speciality) and the nearby town of Kandersteg is pretty to stroll round and explore.
