Credit Suisse Sports Awards 2018

The Credit Suisse Sports Awards 2018 took place at the Television Studios in Oerlikon on Sunday 9th December 2018.

There were 6 categories: Sportsman of the year, Sportswoman of the year, Disabled Sportsperson of the year, the Team award, the Trainer award and the Newcomer Award.

The runners up were Roger Federer in second place, Dario Cologna (Langlaufen), Beat Feuz (alpine ski), Ramon Zehnhäusern (alpine ski),and Andy Schmid (handball).

The studios were buzzing with excitement as everyone wondered whether Nino Schurter, the mountain biker, would finally become sportsman of the year, in this his 10th year of nomination? Or would King Roger take the crown once more? Well, Nino won the award (as you can see in the photo above) and he looked so happy and relieved to finally be holding the prize in his hand.

Daniela Ryf , above, the Triathlete, won the Women’s prize, followed by Wendy Holdener (alpine ski), Léa Sprunger (light athletics), Michelle Gisin (alpine ski), Jeanine Gemlin (rowing) and Mujinga Kambundji (light athletics).

Théo Gmür, (next two photos), alpine skiing, , won the award for Disabled Sportsperson of the year, coach, Patrick Fischer (ice hockey), won the Coaches Award and  Julien Wanders (light athletics) won the Newcomer Award.

Julien Wanders who was not present, won the Newcomer of the year awards and the Swiss national ice hockey team (pictured above) won the team award, competing again the Swiss alpine skiing team and the Young Boys Team.

Nino Schurter Credit Suisse Sports Awards 2018

It was a fabulous event with a reception both before and after the awards at the Television Centre and Jame Blunt was one of the performers providing entertainment during the ceremony.
