A Temple to Design

Pavilion Le Corbusier Zurich Switzerland

Have you visited the Pavilion Le Corbusier in Zurich yet? For all you architect and style fans this really is a must see. Modern, bold and bright, the this unique building is located a short distance from the China Gardens in Zurich’s Kreis 8. Stylish and impressive with a stunning interior, it really is something to stop you in your tracks!

This Swiss art museum at the Zürichhorn is now under the wing of the Museum für Gestaltung and is dedicated to the work of the Swiss architect Le Corbusier. It was founded in 1960 by Heidi Weber and not only was it designed by Le Corbusier, but the interior houses examples of his work. It really is a tribute to this artistic and very modern genius.

The Pavilion Le Corbusier was built in 1967 as an example of a so called “modern home” and at the time was quite a revelation for fans of architecture and modern design. The whole pavilion is designed according to the “Modulor systemexternal link”, which is a special scale of proportions invented by Le Corbusier and based on the human body and “the golden ratio”. It incorporates not just architecture but art in real life.

Every Summer when it is open there will be a new exhibition – and it is certainly  a new “must visit” location in Zurich.

Mon Univers Exhibition at Le Corbusier

The current, 2019 exhibition, is called “Mon Univers”, and you can view all kinds of objects (described by the museum as a “bewildering hodgepodge”) which Le Corbusier collected over the years. There are African masks, seashells, stones, animal bones and jugs and lot more besides. There is lots of cubism in evidence as well as geometric abstract art.  In fact, if you get inspired yourself, you can even sit down and start sketching!
