A Trip to Türlersee
– A Little Lake Not Far From Zurich
Looking for somewhere different to go not far from Zurich? How about the Türlersee? A small lake near Albis in Zurich, it is located in a beautiful nature reserve, surrounded by fields, meadows and woods and the perfect place to relax, swim, fish, hire a boat or stand up paddle board.
A Pleasant Walk
The lake is only about 1.5 kilometres long by 500 meters wide but there are plenty places to stop around its perimeter and the main entrance is next to the campsite. There is also a playground and a small restaurant.
If you fancy just going for a walk, even with young kids you can get round the whole lake in an afternoon as it is just 4km long. It’s very pleasant with beautiful countryside scenery and bounded by woods in certain parts too. The walking trail, unlike the main swimming area is open all year long.
A number of floating pontoons make swimming very popular here and as the lake is quite small, it tends to be a little warmer to swim in than say Lake Zurich. The main Lido area next to the campsite charges a small fee but is equipped with showers and changing areas – although there are many “beach” like areas (as in the picture above) where you can simply go for a dip, all around the lake.
Barbecue and Picnic on The Grassy Verges
There are plenty to grassy verges where you can relax, lie down or play games, all around the lake and some are equipped with grills – making it a great place to have a barbecue or picnic.
If you get have a fishing licence (find out about fishing on the Türlersee here) you can even fish on the lake both on the water’s edge, or on one of the little jetties, or from a boat. There is plenty of pike perch to be caught – all you need to make Egli filets!
The Türlersee is listed in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance (BLN).
Dates: Open during the Summer from Mid-May – September
Opening Hours: 9am until sunset.
