Kitchen Party The Waldhaus Flims – Fabulous Food & Amazing Fun
The Waldhaus Flims is a wonderful five star wellness hotel occupying the most beautiful spot in Flims, Graubünden. With its beautiful and extensive grounds, its award winning spa and amazing cuisine it makes for a fabulous holiday anytime of year. We visited in August to experience a wonderful new concept they are running in their restaurants – The Waldhaus Flims Kitchen Party.
The Kitchen Party Concept
The Kitchen Party is a unique offering which showcases the cuisine from the Waldhaus hotel’s restaurants as well as a guest hotel or restaurant. The evening we attended the crew from the Dolder Grand were there and the chefs from the two hotels worked together to tempt our palates with the most amazing array of delicious treats.
After a warm welcome from Hotel Director Burghard Wolter and a glass of fizz, we set off on our gourmet journey through the vast kitchens of the hotel. It was an opportunity to meet with the chefs in their own environment, ask them questions, find out about the ingredients and to even get involved with helping prepare some of the dishes if we wished.
It was so much fun to be backstage in the restaurant and not only could we see the dishes being prepared but we could taste whichever dishes we fancied. We were even able to glean a few tips on cooking for back home. We dined in the kitchen itself and also in the beautiful glass walled Epoca restaurant, which overlooks the hotel’s beautiful parkland. The Epoca restaurant has been awarded 14 Gaul Millau points and the cuisine is outstanding.
The menu for the evening was very extensive and there just was so much choice. Here is a list of the dishes we were able to sample.
From the hotel’s Thai restaurant Siam there was a delicious and quite spicy yellow Chicken Curry. Thai Chef Daorung Seeneha specialises in authentic Siamese cuisine and the curry tasted divine. Here is an example of another of her beautifully presented dishes.
The Epoca restaurant offered Scallops Ceviche style adorned with avocado, mango and tapioca crisps along with two further dishes Chianina beef with carrots and sea buckworth and a dessert of apricot tarts.

From the Dolder Grand crew there were the following dishes:
Foie gras with black cherry and potato bread
Trout with caviar and parsley
Langoustine with wild cauliflower and summer truffle
Black cod with aubergine and miso being prepared…
… and the finished dish
Wagyu short rib steak with corn and honey mustard
Veal cutlet with sour cream dumplings
To round it all off there was an Elderflower panna cotta with mint granita and champagne.
All the dishes not only looked wonderful but tasted delicious. It was impossible to try everything, but it was great experience to see the dishes being made and decorated so precisely. There were also delicious snacks as well as cheese boards consisting of some sensational cheeses and local cured meats.
Wine and Drinks
It was also an evening not only of culinary highlights, but you could also speak to the hotel’s winegrower and try his wines from the local region and of course enjoy a glass of Champagne or other drinks you might fancy.
