Montreux Noël Christmas Market 2022
18th November – 24th December 2022
The Lakeside Town of Montreux
Montreux is a small town but it is well known for a couple of pretty big things. In Summer it’s the venue for the Montreux Jazz Festival which takes place for two weeks every July, attracting big names from the world of jazz, pop and rock. In Winter it’s known for its beautiful Christmas Market.
Montreux Noël Christmas Market
Montreux Noël as it’s called, stretches along the town’s shores of Lake Geneva and is recognized as one of the largest and also the prettiest in Switzerland. It’s on at the moment and continues until the 24th December.
Lots of Christmas Activities
Featuring lots of twinkling Christmas stalls, a ferris wheel, a Christmas Village and a mountain-top Santa’s grotto it’s a must-visit destination if you’re wanting to experience a Swiss Christmas Market with a French accent.
Festive Food and Drink at Montreux Noël
There’s plenty of “vin chaud” on offer as well as raclette, fondue, cold meat platters and lots of sweet offerings too.
Zurich To Montreux
It takes about two and a half to three hours to get to Montreux from Zurich and it’s a very picturesque journey. When you arrive not only are you in a part of Switzerland where they speak a different language but it has a noticeably different feel about it too.
A Great Place to Buy Christmas Gifts
There are all manner of gift ideas on sale at the market and it’s a a great place to buy Christmas presents.
Flying Santa at Montreux Noël Christmas Market 2022
One of the highlights of the Montreux Christmas Market has got to be the “flying Santa” who flies through the ski on his sledge and stops for a few minutes to sing a couple of songs. Popular with young and old alike! Santas flies his sledge everyday at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm and at the weekends he does an extra stint at 4pm.
Tips on Visiting the Christmas Markets:
1. Wrap up warmly as it can get very COLD. Don’t forget your gloves and wear comfy shoes. Children in strollers can get really cold very quickly when the temperatures drop – so make sure they have plenty of layers.
2. Make sure to have your credit or debit card with you as many stalls are now operating cashless payment due to Covid.
3. Always keep your wallet or purse close to you and your handbag within sight and in a safe place – as markets are very busy places and you don’t want to lose it or invite unwelcome attention.
4. Plan what you want to see / do most and make those a priority as there are so many things to see you might not fit them all in.
5. If you’re planning eating at the market make sure to make a reservation in advance as many pop up restaurants get booked up very quickly.
6. If you’re planning on buying lots of presents take a large shopping bag with you.
7. If you already have a Christmas Glühwein mug at home why not recycle it and save plastic (and a deposit) when you go for your mulled wine.
