A Dreamy Stay at Ultima Corfu
Article and Photos by Marina S. Haq
Over the course of four days, I had the opportunity to stay at Ultima Corfu, an exclusive villa on the Greek island of Corfu, also known as Kerkyra. Situated in the Ionian sea, Corfu is part of the Ionian islands and lies close to the coast of Albania. The island plays a significant role in Greek history, as it has been the site of many battles and conquests. Throughout its history, Corfu was ruled by various powers, including the Venetians, the French and the British. With just a two-hour flight from Zurich, Switzerland, it was the perfect time to escape the approaching cold weather.

Established in 2016 with the award-winning hotel in Gstaad, Switzerland, the collection has expanded to include chalets and waterfront retreats from the Alps to the Mediterranean. Guests enjoy the high-end services of a 5-star hotel within the comfort and seclusion of their own private space. Comfort and discretion are of utmost importance to Ultima Collection, which aims to elevate traditional hospitality through personalized, luxury living experiences.
Arriving to the Gem of Corfu
Upon arrival in Greece, the Ultima experience commenced. A private chauffeur from the resort greeted us at the airport and took us on a quick 10-minute drive to the city of Corfu. From there, we had the option of reaching the property either by a scenic 40-minute drive or an adventurous 20-minute boat ride. I chose the latter – the ride was thrilling, with breathtaking scenery and big waves. From a distance, we could see the stunning waterfront villa, where the house manager Margot Burceille and the service staff patiently awaited our arrival at the private dock to welcome us.
Greeted with warm smiles and refreshing handtowels, we took a short walk to the nearest outdoor lift, which carried us up to the property. Grandeur, sophistication and tranquility were the first things that came to my mind as I stepped into the authentic Greek villa – its soft shades of brown and grey harmonized with the natural surroundings. It felt surreal, as though I had stepped onto a movie set. What truly caught my attention was the magnificent infinity pool as its edges merged beautifully into the amazing surrounding landscape. The spectacular 180-degree views of the Greek and Albanian coastlines, made it feel like I was standing in a masterpiece.
Ultima Corfu captures the essence of Corfu, reflecting the beauty described by British author Gerald Durrell in his 1956 autobiographical book “My Family and Other Animals,” inspired by his childhood on the island between 1935 and 1939: “Corfu is a wonderful place. There’s something about the light, the air, the olive groves that just makes you feel so alive.”
Amenities at Ultima Corfu
Guests at Ultima Corfu can enjoy complete privacy and seclusion, with accommodations for up to 12 guests in six luxurious suites, each featuring a private dressing room, en-suite bathroom and breathtaking views. The villa also includes a gym, cinema room, hilltop jacuzzi and two infinity pools.
Well-being is central at Ultima Corfu, with a wide range of treatments provided by expertly trained specialists, including on-call clinicians, aestheticians and therapists. I had the chance to experience the one-hour Ultima Signature Massage. Already in a relaxed state upon arrival at this gorgeous property, the full-body massage enhanced my experience even further – I found it so soothing that I fell asleep. In addition to the massage, we enjoyed an early morning Pilates and stretching session, which can easily be arranged by the service staff.
From the house manager, Margot Buceille, to private Chef Alexandros Porfyris, and the service and wellness staff, everyone was attentive to our culinary preferences, dietary needs and any other requests – regardless of the time of day. Their warm smiles and willingness to help enriched the entire experience at Ultima Corfu. Within a short time, the staff had already anticipated many of our needs and continued to surprise us with thoughtful gestures.
Nearby Activities
In addition to enjoying the exclusivity of the secluded Greek villa, guests can immerse themselves in nearby activities as well. With the villa’s private coastline, boat rides are a perfect way to explore. I had the chance to experience a boat ride along the coast of Corfu, passing by old villages and villas owned by prominent individuals.
Whether by a 20-minute boat ride or a 40-minute car ride, the town of Corfu is close enough for a day trip to explore the richness of its culture and architecture.
For guests who prefer to stay closer, Ultima Corfu’s large property offers plenty to discover. Guests can explore its hidden corners, multiple levels of gardens and the shoreline.
Water activities are also readily available, with direct access to the sea from the property. Guests can enter the Adriatic Sea from the private grounds, watching numerous boats pass by while feeling the warmth of the sun and the soft sea breeze.
