Neuguet Farm – the Herz Projekt

An Opportunity to Connect with Nature and Engage with Animals
by Simon Ewin
For many people, farming is something that has a certain fascination about it. That’s probably why so many kids play with toy farmyards and may also explain the surprising (at least to me !) popularity of farming simulation games. But how many people actually get the chance to spend time on a farm in close proximity to the animals ? Indeed, as we become increasingly immersed in our “always on” world, how many people take the time to get closer to nature and to try to re-charge our internal batteries.

A couple of years back, we were searching for somewhere to give our son the chance to spend time with animals and to get into the great outdoors and somebody recommended the Herz Projekt. It turned out to be a great recommendation and, since then, we have developed a strong, deep and, hopefully, lasting relationship with the team.

For us, the ask was pretty straightforward; our son enjoyed spending time with animals and it provided a way of giving him social contact (and fresh air !) in a relaxed setting. The Herz Projekt team were absolutely brilliant with him and he quickly picked up a whole range of practical skills that have given him confidence and will be invaluable to him moving forwards. So, if this is something that you are looking for, you could do a lot worse than contact the team to see how they can help.

But, as we have discovered during our time there, the Herz Projekt is so much more than somewhere to spend time with farm animals. They have a beautiful, light and airy “creative room” in which you can carry out craft projects, maybe as a team building activity or for a small group of friends who want to spend some time away from it all. The room can also be used to host an “off site” meeting and it always struck me that it would be a great place to hold one of those “brainstorming” meetings where you need people to be focused but also sufficiently relaxed to be creative and innovative.
For the younger members of society, the Herz Projekt also host school groups, including for kids (or adults) with special needs. To my mind, this is a particularly important part of what they do, because so many kids have little of no awareness of where the things that we consume come from. Given the challenges that we face with the environment, making sure our children develop this awareness seems to me to be of greater importance now than it has ever been.

Conveniently located between Zug and Zürich, the Herz Projekt is easily reachable by road or by public transport. The farm is perched on some hills close to Baar, overlooking Zugersee and with a breathtaking view of Pilatus. If you are looking for a one off activity or something more regular, you should definitely contact the Herz Projekt team.
