I’ve always loved the fact that in the Spring and Summer (and even early Autumn) Zurich is so alive with everyone eating out in pavement cafes and outdoor terraces. It’s one of things that my mother always raved about on her trips over here and you can see why.
So where’s the best place to eat out on an outdoor terrace? Well, if you’re looking for rooftops then you need to look here – and for waterside restaurants see here – but for outdoor terraces, pavement restaurants and garden restaurants you’re in the right place. With its parasols and outdoor seating in a beautiful spot on the cobbled stones of the Münsterhof, you feel as if you’re a tourist in your own town dining here.

Marguita Baur Au Lac Terrasse, 8001 Zurich
The beautiful terrace at the Baur au Lac over looking their lovely gardens is a wonderful place to dine or have a drink in Summer. The Terrace has recently undergone a makeover and is now known as Marguita and offers a great menu too. If you’re visiting in early Summer don’t forget to check their Art In the Park exhibition.

Hidden behind Paradeplatz is the lovely Milchbar. As well as great coffee and drinks they also have a lovely menu and as well as outside seating around the little fountain in the middle of this beautiful square, there is also some indoor seating too.

Surely this restaurant has one of the most beautiful settings in Zurich, right in the heart of Augustinergasse? With the parasols, the starched white tablecloths and the lovely Italian cuisine, this really is la dolce vita.

I love this beautiful little spot, hidden away just metres from the hustle and bustle of Paradeplatz. A little oasis with a great menu. A real gem that I love going back to. In the evenings there are fairy lights in the bushes.

Seehaus Herrliberg
With a fabulous view over Lake Zurich, Seehaus Herrliberg offers a great menu that includes sushi, fish and chips and lots of beautifully prepared specialities. The lake views are stunning and the service is friendly and every lunchtime during the week there are daily changing specials. There are also vegetarian / vegan options. And why not finish your meal with a drink on the jetty (pictured above)? It just feels like holiday!
