A Touch of Lucy: Zurich’s Walk-In Crystal Lights Paradeplatz

As soon as the festive season arrives in Zurich, Bahnhofstrasse begins to sparkle under the famous Lucy lights – thousands of tiny LEDs suspended like a glittering winter sky. But just a few steps from Paradeplatz sits a lesser-known installation called A Touch of Lucy where you can not onlyadmire the lights, but step inside them.

This walk-in crystal pavilion is a faceted structure shaped like a giant crystal, designed to echo the shimmering patterns of the Lucy lights above the Bahnhofstrasse. Once inside, the mirrored surfaces and angled panels scatter reflections in every direction, creating a kaleidoscope with shifting colours and sparkles. It’s immersive, beautiful and calming.

The installation is especially beautiful at dusk, when the contrast between the warm glow of Paradeplatz and the cool, crystalline tones of the pavilion look very special. A Touch of Lucy adds a unique, interactive layer to Zurich’s festive lights.
Originally inspired by the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” the annual illumination has become one of Zurich’s most recognisable Christmas symbols since their inception in 2005. The walk-in pavilion is however, a more recent addition, offering a modern, experiential twist on the classic display.
