The Lucy Christmas Lights Go On in Bahnhofstrasse
In Zurich the beginning of the Christmas season is marked by the lighting of the Lucy illuminations in the city’s main shopping street. The Lucy Christmas lights consist of around 12,000 clear and coloured crystals as well as 40km of transparent cable. The Lucy Christmas lights in Bahnhofstrasse Zurich are usually officially switched on on the third Thursday of November at 6pm. This year they will be switched on at 6pm on Thursday 20th November. They remain on until Epiphany (or Dreikönigstag), 6th January.

Late Night Shopping in Bahnhofstrasse
After the Lucy Christmas lights in Bahnhofstrasse have been switched on, there will be late-night shopping from 6pm until 9pm in many of the shops and boutiques along in the centre of the city. Around 150 shops will be taking part. You can find out more this here or at the bottom of this article.

At the same time various other lights around Zurich will be switched on to complete the festive atmosphere all over Zurich. However, the Lucy Christmas lights in Bahnhofstrasse Zurich are the most popular with crowds queuing up to watch them being switched on.
The Lindor Chocolate Tree Replaced the Swarovski Tree
In years gone by there was a tradition of having a Swarovski Tree (see picture above) at the Christmas Market in Zurich Main Station, which was always lit an hour after the Lucy Christmas lights had been switched on in Bahnhofstrasse, at 7pm. The Swarovski Christmas Tree is no longer visiting Zurich, but there will of course be a lovely Lindor Christmas tree at the main station instead.
