Wellness and Health at Buff Medical Resort Konstanz

Luxurious Accommodation and Top Medical Treatments
The other week I was lucky enough to spend a few days at the Buff Medical Resort in Constance, a state-of-the-art retreat set in parkland directly overlooking Lake Constance. Only recently opened, it is a unique combination of a five-star luxury hotel and a fully equipped medical centre, blending the comfort and elegance of a world-class resort with the expertise and precision of modern medicine. The design is beautiful and the facilities are immaculate and state of the art. What’s more is that the personnel are truly outstanding – warm, attentive and really interested in helping you achieve your health and wellbeing goals. Best of all, the resort is under an hour and a half from Zurich, making it exceptionally easy to get to.

During my stay I experienced a wide range of treatments, from reflexology and an Ayurvedic full body massage to Watsu, a relaxing water treatment as well as personal training sessions and gym work. I also got up early for the morning walks along the lakefront at 7.30am. The two most memorable highlights for me, however, were the 3D body scan and the acupuncture and osteopathy I received from Mr Eggert. The scan provides a fascinating and detailed picture of your health, while Mr Eggert’s treatment worked such wonders that it almost completely resolved the pain I had been suffering in my left shoulder for more than a year. After each diagnostic analysis, such as the 3D scan and the breathing tests, I had follow-up discussions with Dr Julia Winkels, which I found extremely interesting and useful. Another great benefit was meeting with the nutritionist, who offered clear, practical advice and support tailored to my own needs. I also tried the Water Cocoon treatment, which was so relaxing that it felt like floating away into the abyss as well as a wonderfully invigorating salt scrub.
Buff Relax
The resort’s wellness and spa area, Buff Relax, is extensive and beautifully designed. Here are some impressions:
It includes a 15-metre indoor pool with lake views and a 25-metre outdoor infinity pool that seems to merge with the surrounding landscape. There are steam and bio-saunas, an infrared sauna, an ice bath at 4°C for cold immersion, an Aqua-Shiatsu pool, Kneipp foot baths, and even a marine-climate graduation house with salt aerosols. The atmosphere throughout is one of quiet luxury, with natural materials, soft lighting and plenty of space to unwind.

The gym facilities are equally impressive. The fitness centre is fitted with the latest Technogym equipment, alongside specialist diagnostic tools that allow detailed analysis of movement, posture and metabolism. For those wishing to focus on exercise, the resort offers a dedicated BuffMed Sports programme, combining training, physiotherapy and performance monitoring.

On the medical side, Buff is remarkably well equipped, with a 5,000 square metre medical domain housing more than 60 therapy rooms. Here, a wide range of modern diagnostics are offered, from cardiovascular MRI, spiroergometry, gut microbiome profiling and continuous monitoring of blood sugar and blood pressure. Treatments on offer include colon hydrotherapy, alkaline baths, liver compresses, infusions, cupping, fascia therapy and mineral salt peels, as well as more traditional therapies such as Shiatsu, Watsu and Ayurvedic massage. Beauty and relaxation treatments are also available, many of which use natural products from the South Tyrol brand Team Dr Joseph.
FX Mayr Method – Gut Health

Central to the Buff philosophy is the FX Mayr method, which places gut health at the heart of overall wellbeing. When you meet with your doctor, all aspects of your health are carefully discussed and a programme tailored to your needs. The Mayr regime can be adapted to suit your lifestyle and goals. I was fortunate to try the gourmet Level Six menu for both breakfast and lunch, ( and it really was delicious!) while in the evenings I followed Level Two, enjoying soup and one of the famous chewing trainer biscuits. The approach encourages you not to drink half an hour before or after a meal, and to chew each mouthful 30 to 40 times. It requires discipline, but in such tranquil and supportive surroundings it soon feels natural. There is no alcohol or coffee on site, but plenty of water is available throughout the day and nourishing hot broth is always on hand for anyone in need of an extra boost. I never once felt hungry on my plan, though I imagine the stricter programmes might be more challenging.

The bedrooms and suites are light, airy and very comfortable, many with balconies overlooking the lake or gardens. Some feature their own infrared saunas or altitude-climate systems, which simulate mountain air up to 4,000 metres, which is said to help with metabolism, immunity and restful sleep. My room was lovely and spacious, with both a standalone bath and a shower, and a wonderfully comfortable bed and a balcony overlooking the pool.
What I liked most was the approachable and attentive manner of everyone I met, from the reception staff to the therapists and medical team. Everyone is really friendly and it creates a sense of ease and relaxation that lasts well beyond your stay. Buff Medical Resort really is a haven for anyone wishing to reset, recharge and step back from the pace of modern life. I can only recommend it wholeheartedly.
