Don’t get caught out by a sudden Public Holiday when you’re not ready! Below you can find a list of all the Public Holidays for 2026.
If it’s shopping you’re after, it’s not usually the end of the world because you can go to the shops listed here at the main station, Stadelhofen, the airport and you can also now visit The Circle at Zurich Airport, which is always open 365 days a year too. In addition many petrol stations offer a wide range of food and groceries as well as car accessories. Just an hour from Zurich ( both by car or train) you can find the Landquart Fashion Outlet which is open 363 days a year – it is only closed on Christmas Day and on 1st January.
Siren Day
On another topic, every year they test the sirens across Switzerland – and this date is always the first Wednesday in February. They usually start around 1:30pm in the afternoon.

Unlike some countries (like the UK, where if the holiday falls on a weekend it is added as an extra holiday the following Monday, this does not happen in Zurich!
Please note that there is also a half day holiday in Zurich for the festival of Sechselaeuten – though it normally only applies to the shops right in the city centre and not all, in any case.
