The old town of Zurich was first constructed in the 6th century after the fall of the Romans. Today, the “Altstadt” serves as a site of old administrative buildings and a new district of shops that give the old town its charm.
The heart and soul of Zurich, the Altstadt contains a good opportunity for both sight-seeing and shopping in Zurich. Centred around the imposing Bahnhofstrasse, shops include fashion, technology, media, watches and jewellery for both tourists and locals to browse. Many of Zurich’s finest shops are situated here.
The array of shops is balanced with clean lined street leading to many of the things to do in Zurich. Sites such as the Fraumunster, Lindenhof and Zeughauskeller can be found within its streets. Although small in comparison to other major cities of the globe, the Altstadt is where Zurich was first founded and its narrow and often cobbled streets are full of charm.
