The View at Le Mirador Resort & Spa

Le Mirador Resort & Spa 5 star hotel in Vevey was originally built in 1904 as a medical retreat called Mon Repos by J.-H. Collombet, and arriving at the hotel with its stunning views, you can see why! However you’re feeling when you enter, once you catch sight of this view, you feel better straight away.

Stunning Location

The stunning views stretch right across Lake Geneva from Montreux to Lausanne and beyond. Constantly changing with the time of day and the weather, they are truly mesmerising. The location in Chardonne, Vaud at Le Mont-Pèlerin is above the town of Vevey, is a tranquil spot and just a short distance from the UNESCO World Heritage Lavaux vineyards.

Many famous people have passed through this building including the French composer, Maurice Ravel who stayed there in 1934 to recuperate from an injury. There is a funicular 3 minutes walk from the hotel which takes you down to the lake, and it’s just a short walk then to the centre of Vevey. On the journey down you can enjoy some exceptional views.

Bedrooms at Le Mirador Vevey

We were staying in a Junior Suite in the newer part of the hotel. This was our second time of staying and both times we have found the bedrooms and bathrooms to have been spacious and well designed with all the amenities you could wish for. The wifi was good and there was a Nespresso coffee machine and a little fridge stocked with complimentary soft drinks.

In addition to the shower and double wash basins we also had a bath tub too – something I very much cherish.

The bedroom also had a spacious private terrace equipped with a couple of loungers and a small table and chairs and the most fantastic view imaginable. It was so addictive that I even got up early in the morning to check the sunrise – and this is speaking as someone who is definitely not an early bird!

Delicious Food and Restaurants

There are two main restaurants, Le Patio and Hinata, the Japanese Restaurant and you can also eat out at the Bar Lounge and Terrace too.

For the Winter months there are also 3 “Fondue Gondalas” which accommodate up to four people each and were previously used on the ski slopes in Gstaad.  You can see all the restaurants listed here.

Le Patio Restaurant

We had a delicious breakfast in the Le Patio restaurant. Along with a generous array of cold dishes they also have a chef cooing hot egg dishes to order. There is plenty of comfortable seating inside Le Patio but we were lucky enough to be able to sit outside and enjoy our breakfast and the views outside in the early Autumn sunshine.

Hinata Japanese Restaurant

In the evening we were invited to dine at  the hotel’s Japanese restaurant Hinata. With its Zen design, breathtaking views and delicious Japanese cuisine, it really was one of the highlights of our stay.

Apparently the word “HINATA” means “Sunny place” and the hotel’s stylish Japanese restaurant certainly occupies a beautiful sunny spot adjacent to the panoramic terrace. However, because we were eager to see sunset over the lake we dined just after the sun had set.

When we arrived we met Chef Handoko who has worked all over the world in Japanese restaurants.

Indonesian by birth, he is passionate about Japanese cuisine and went to great lengths to explain the menu to us.

Saki Flight at Hinata Japanese Restaurant Le Mirador Vevey

He suggested we begin with the “Saki Flight” and we got to taste three different types of Saki which were all very different to each other and very more-is! Before we knew it, a tasty teriyaki chicken skewer amuse bouche arrived and next came an array of wonderful sushi.

It all tasted delicious and the sushi came in a very generous portion! We chose a wine from the wine list and Handoko told us that all the wines had been selected so that they work well with Japanese food. There are local wines from the Lavaux and New World wines too, all of which compliment the menu.

We’ve only had Japanese salads a couple of times before and this one was totally delicious – it had so many textures and was crispy, creamy and so full of flavour.

Our main courses were absolutely wonderful. We had steak and salmon accompanied by Japanese style vegetables and it was all superb. The flavours all combined so well. (Because I had forgotten my camera, and the lighting is somewhat subdued, some of the photos are a little darker than we would have liked) – but it tasted delicious! Hinata is definitely a Japanese restaurant to visit if you’re in staying or living in the Vevey area!

We really enjoyed this wonderful Japanese meal and it was a pleasure meeting Chef Handoko and seeing his passion and expertise in creating the most delicious Japanese dishes.

After our meal we stepped out on the balcony to admire the ever changing view, this time sparkling with all the lights.

The Givenchy Spa

The Spa and Pool area is extensive with jacuzzi, hammer and sauna and again, it boasts fabulous views over the lake. It covers 1,750 m² offering plenty of space to relax in comfy chairs and loungers either on the terrace outside or around the pool.

Meanwhile the Givenchy Spa has a vast array of fabulous treatments on offer from facials, to massages to manicures and pedicures. If you prefer to work out there is a newly renovated gym with lots of equipment to keep you busy. In addition the hotel also runs a number of classes during the week. I took the Bodysculpt class with Anna and it was amazing! It was quite tough, using bands and a step and other equipment, but you could go at your own pace and it was great fun.
