We were staying early in the season in mid May so we ate both breakfast and dinner in the Restaurant Fontana; great food with an Italian flavour. The half board menu is very filling and there are four courses each night – so do pace yourself!
Breakfast
Even though it was only May we managed to have breakfast outside on the garden terrace of the restaurant each morning – which felt very luxurious and relaxing. The selection was plentiful and there was lots to choose from. Omelettes and egg dishes are cooked to order and our coffees arrived swiftly.
Dinner
We ate from the half board menu in the evenings at the Restaurant Fontana and everything was freshly prepared and delicious. The staff were super friendly and great fun – in fact our waiter was quite a character which made it even more enjoyable!
Garden
One of the most relaxing aspects of the hotel is the beautiful garden. Filled with plants and flowers and surrounded by high walls it was a real oasis of calm where you can relax and enjoy your holiday.
The hotel even has its own “grotto”, a small traditional Ticino style Summer restaurant with a beautiful view overlooking the garden.
Spa and Pool
The spa is not the most modern but is well equipped with a decent-sized pool, offering both “in and out” swimming areas, a small gym, sauna, steam room and a menu of spa treatments which can be booked by appointment. We had a look around the pool and spa facilities but due to our packed schedule we didn’t actually make it for a swim even though it looked very inviting!
Biking and Golfing
Other activities include biking and the hotel has a number of city bikes available free of charge for guests and they rent electric mountain-bikes and electric city-bikes in addition to junior mountain bikes for children.
The hotel offers its golf playing guests a 20% discount at the Golf Club in Losone and 10% discount at the prestigious Golf Club Patriziale in Ascona.
Cars can be parked directly in front of the hotel or in the underground garage. Business visitors are also well catered for with five modern, air-conditioned seminar rooms seating up to 180 people.
Conclusion
The Hotel Belvedere is ideal for couples and exceptionally good for families with the garden and pool area providing a fabulous facility for relaxing and family entertainment. The rooms are spacious and modern and the staff are very welcoming and friendly in true Ticino style. You might also be interested to know that pets are welcome too.
One of the things we particularly liked was that it was just a short walk into Locarno (or a short trip on the Funicular) which made it very easy to explore the town without having to take the car or a taxi. It’s also well located for exploring some of the many local attractions listed below.
