Chandolin Boutique Hotel Switzerland
Luxury Bijou Hotel in the Swiss Alps
The Chandolin Boutique Hotel was voted the “Top Mountain Hotel in Europe” by GeoSaison magazine in January 2019 and in the same month we were lucky enough to be invited to stay there.
When driving to the hotel the first thing that strikes you is the view. It’s spectacular! The hotel is perched up in the mountains in one of the highest villages in Europe that’s inhabited all year round. You reach it via a windy route and when we arrived in late January, the white snowy views were stunning.
Especially beautiful are the sunrises and sunsets – do try and catch them! 🙂
A bijou hotel with 25 rooms, 3 of which are suites as well as 5 apartments, the hotel opened in March 2017. This modern elegant chalet style mountain hotel boasts a restaurant, a Wellness area with steam, sauna and relaxation area and an outdoor deck with two jacuzzis.
In keeping with being one of the “Design Hotels of Switzerland”, everything is very stylish and well thought out. The floor has beautiful stone flagstones and there is lots of natural wood everywhere giving it a lovely modern yet cosy “chalet feel”.
The Rooms
The rooms are bijou but they are of a high spec and quality and have everything you need.
The beds and bedding are supremely comfortable luxurious and there is a large screen tv, a tablet at your disposal and a coffee machine with capsules, fresh carafes of water each day, plenty of electrical and USB sockets which make it easy to charge sockets and the wifi is excellent.
If you’re lucky enough to have a room with a little balcony and a beautiful view it’s wonderful to sit and watch the ever changing vista of the valley below.
The modern bathrooms are equipped with powerful showers (and 3 rooms and one suite also have a bathtub).
Le Restaurant
The hotel’s dining room where breakfast and dinner are served is called Le Restaurant. In fitting with the theme throughout the hotel, it has plenty of wood and glass and of course, stunning views of the mountains.
The breakfast is buffet style but you order hot items separately and their poached eggs are amazing. There are lovely breads and pastries, delicious spreads like salted caramel and home made hazelnut and chocolate, along with fresh and poached fruit, a good selection of local hams and cheeses, smoked salmon and all the usual cereals, juices yogurts – everything you could wish for. You can even have a glass of bubbly if you fancy.
You can enjoy a gourmet dinner in “Le Restaurant” with locally sourced and regional specialities, a fire glowing in the centre of the room and a backdrop of beautiful mountains.
If you prefer something more relaxed you can go next door to “Le Chalet” which is also run by the hotel, and serves pizza, pasta and local specialities. There is also a “Moon Bar” downstairs which is a great location for drinks and for events.
The Moon Bar
The Altitude Wellness Area
The Altitude Wellness Area offers a modern steam, sauna and relaxation area. The highlight is the jacuzzi hot tubs which are included in the wellness and you simply book a 30 minute slot so that you can enjoy the hot bubbling water and totally relax.
Enjoy a sauna with a view.
Steam room
In the evening the hot tubs are illuminated and have coloured lights in the water too. It’s really fun sitting in the hot bubbling water completely surrounded by snow.
The Salon des Étoiles
Next to the Altitude Wellness area there is the “Salon des Étoiles” which is a cosy lounge with a large screen and lots of comfortable armchairs and sofas.
It’s the perfect place to relax with friends after a day’s skiing and is equipped with a supply of complimentary coffee and water and plenty of books and magazines. Best of all is open 24 hours a day!
Ideal For Skiing and Snowboarding
The hotel is very close to the St Luc Chandolin Ski Resort and you can either walk there on foot (about 8-9 minutes) or take the free shuttle bus which comes past every 20 minutes and takes you directly to the chair lifts.
We really enjoyed skiing in this area and the beautifully groomed slopes offered fabulous views and when we were there in January were not busy at all. As well as skiing there is tobogganing on offer as well as lots of mountain walks. You can read more about the Chandolin Ski Area here.
To Sum Up
After a two night stay, enjoying the mountain air, the beautiful skiing and relaxing in the spa, we felt energised and relaxed. The hotel is one of the Design Hotels group and is beautifully styled throughout.
The staff were super friendly (and all spoke excellent English) and nothing was too much trouble.
So if you’re looking for a little bijou retreat in this little Swiss paradise, why not take a trip to the Chandolin Boutique Hotel?
