Exploring Andermatt from the
Radisson Blu Reussen Hotel
The Radisson Blu Reussen Hotel in Andermatt recently celebrated its one year anniversary and we went back to visit it. Situated in a beautiful location in the centre of Andermatt, in the pretty Ursern Valley, the hotel is modern and elegant in its architecture, but at the same time full of alpine charm. With lots of local wood and natural stone in total there are 244 rooms, suites and residences.
A Basecamp for Adventure and Activity
It’s an ideal basecamp for exploring the beauty of the Swiss Alps around Andermatt, Sedrun, Disentis and the famous Gemsstock. Here you can enjoy the adventures of skiing, cross-country skiing, snow boarding, snow shoeing and lots more. The local Sports Shop on the campus provides all sorts of sports rental, including fat bikes and they even have a location on the mountain too. One of the advantages of the hotel is that it is situated within walking distance of the ski lifts. The slopes of the Andermatt-Sedrun ski area and the nearby Gemsstock are temptingly close.
In Summer the mountains attract outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, bikers and walkers and there is golf in the vicinity too with the 18-hole Andermatt Swiss Alps golf course designed by architect Kurt Rossknecht.
Spacious Modern Rooms
The rooms are elegantly designed with a wooden chalet feel and equipped with all mod cons. You have free (good quality) Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, a Nespresso coffee machine and supplies, a mini bar and a modern bathroom with shower facilities. If you’re lucky you may even wake up to views overlooking the snow capped mountains as we did, which really makes it special.
Spa And Wellness
The spa and wellness area is large, modern and spacious. With a beautiful indoor full 25 metre fresh water pool surrounded by luxurious loungers it is a fabulous area to relax. There is also a smaller play pool for children.
There are two saunas as well as a Finish sauna, a steam room and plenty of space to chill out in the relaxation rooms.
The pool is open till 9pm each night and the well equipped gym is open round the clock.
Relaxation areas in the Wellness Area
Treatments
There is a whole menu of massages which can be booked from a classic massage, to sports massage, foot reflexology, herbal stamp massage, full body massage and aromatic oil massage. They also offer a range of beauty treatments including facials, manicures and pedicures. I had a wonderful back, neck and shoulder massage which left me totally relaxed and the therapist was very professional and really knowledgeable.
Delicious Swiss Cuisine
The restaurant Spun incorporates culinary influences from all over Switzerland. You can find everything from a hearty fondue to a beautifully cooked and delicious truffle pasta, to a Zurich Geschnetzeltes or delicious steak (the steak was cooked to perfection and was fabulously tasty).
In addition, the morning breakfast buffet is laden with lots of goodies and you can have hot egg dishes and waffles made to order.
In the evenings you can relax around the fire with a drink or read your book.
A Prefect Place From Which To Explore Andermatt
Whether you’re in Andermatt to ski, to walk, to bike or to enjoy the wellness, there is plenty to do. There are stunning views of the mountains to enjoy from the hotel and the town centre is just a short stroll away. In Winter it’s a beautiful snowy getaway with fresh mountain air and a full list of activities and leisure options. In Summer it’s a paradise for hikers and golfers.
If it’s business rather than pleasure you’re considering for your stay, the hotel has six fully-equipped meeting rooms and a conference hall with room for up to 700 guests.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the hotel, with wonderful attentive service, delicious cuisine and the highlight for us was the Wellness area and treatment. For more details on the hotel see below:
