Arabella Hotel Waldhuus Davos
The Arabella Hotel Waldhuus Davos is a four star superior family friendly hotel located in Davos. As well as having fabulous activities for the whole of the family (and especially children), it also offers great skiing and Cross Country Skiing opportunities right on your doorstop.
The hotel has 93 rooms and suites and is located just a few minutes from the centre of Davos surrounded by beautiful mountains. In Winter you have the cross-country ski tracks just a stone’s throw from the hotel and the ski slopes just a short distance away.
In Summer, there is a 18-hole golf course on the doorstep – not to mention numerous hiking and biking routes amongst the most beautiful scenery.
Spa and Wellness
Whatever the weather the 700-square metre wellness area is a welcome retreat for rest and relaxation. Featuring an indoor pool, a variety of saunas, a steam bath, a solarium and a gym. Guests can also enjoy a wide range of massages and SPA treatments. A perfect place to relax those weary legs after a hard day’s skiing.
Perfect for Families
Perhaps the most important thing to emphasise is the family-friendliness. The Waldhuus is definitely a great family hotel in Davos. Small children are warmly welcomed with open arms! There is a special “Globi Kids Club” with toys, creativity, crafts and a whole lot of kid-size fun! As well as having a special children’s menu in the restaurant, they even offer super cute mini bathrobes for kids!
Our room had a great view over the mountains from the spacious balcony. The rooms are large and comfortable. The theme is more “Gemütlichkeit” and Swiss Chalet than cutting edge stylish – but they are equipped with all mod cons.
The food in the restaurant was delicious. Typical Swiss mountain food was served in the evening along with steak, fish and a variety of salads. Breakfast was a generous buffet with freshly cooked omelettes and egg dishes made to order and great service. Everything you need to set you up for a day in the mountains!
Cross Country Skiing
Whilst we were there we had a go at Cross Country skiing, which is just in front of the hotel. Our instructor was the extremely vivacious Regina who really put us though our paces on the trail.
If you’ve never done it before it certainly is quite exhausting the first time – but you do feel great afterwards! Tip: don’t wear too many heavy clothes when you’re doing this as you get very hot very quickly! However, it is great fun and a fabulous way to enjoy the fantastic Winter scenery. Luckily for us the hotel was so close by that we could simply walk back from the tracks and head off to the pool and sauna to relax.
Snow Harvesting for Cross Country Skiing
Davos’s success with cross Country Skiing is due to the “Snow Harvesting” principles they use. Since 2008 they have been covering large mounds of snow with sawdust to protect and keep the snow so that is ready in Autumn to prepare the cross country snow trails.
This innovative way of snow management means that the Cross Country season can begin much earlier and this year the 4 km long snow farming cross-country skiing trail opened on 27th October 2018. It is now ready to be used by both athletes and amateurs alike!
The hotel offer a number of Cross Country Skiing packages and this year has its own Cross Country Instructor, Barbara Flury, so for more information take a look at the website here.
There’s everything you need for a family holiday at the Arabella Hotel Waldhuus, but it’s also worth exploring the local town and the ice skating rinks. If you’re skiing you can always pop over the mountains to nearby Klosters too.
So if you fancy escaping to the mountains this Winter to try some Cross Country skiing or other Winter Sport, why not give Arabella Hotel Waldhuus Davos a go?
