Mövenpick Karon Beach Resort
Out of the Grey into the Phuket Sunshine
Last November when the weather was looking distinctly grey and dull in Zurich, we headed off to the Mövenpick Karon Beach Resort in Phuket, Thailand. After driving from the airport to Karon Beach we arrived at the hotel to a lovely warm welcome, a cooling drink of fruit juice and a refreshing cold towel. We checked in and were shown to our plunge pool villa.
A Variety of Accommodation Set In Lush Gardens
Set in over 20 acres of beautiful green and lush grounds, the Mövenpick Karon Beach Resort boasts 363 rooms which span a large range of different room categories, which means there is something for everyone.
A third of the rooms are villas which includes Garden Villas, Plunge Pool Villas and the top category of Penthouse Plunge Pool Villa. There are also the new and very luxurious self-catering apartments at “The Residence” which are sleek and modern with huge glass window fronts overlooking the beachfront and gardens.
The villas are located away from the main hotel building amongst the beautiful tropical gardens and offer lots of peace and privacy. The villas also enjoy exclusive access to the Coconut Grove Pool.
Our plunge pool villa consisted of a large bedroom, a bathroom with an enormous bath tub and a separate power shower, a TV, a well stocked mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities and an outdoor terrace with plunge pool overlooking the gardens.
A table and a couple of chairs on the terrace enabled us to relax and enjoy the view of the gardens and water feature.
Generous wardrobe space was practical or hanging all our clothes and the daily room service was very friendly and they did a great job. We had complimentary bottles of water each day, though we got through these at such a rate we could have probably done with more!
If you’re really looking for a modern, luxurious stay, the apartments at The Mövenpick Karon Beach Residences are the latest developments at the resort. These premium properties, with fabulous floor to ceiling views across Karon Beach offer spacious modern living facilities.
The two bedroom Residences have a double and a twin bedroom and are light and bright and decorated in a contemporary style.
Each bedroom has ensuite facilites and a fully equipped mini kitchen – ideal for families and friends.
As well as a spacious living and dining area there are generous balconies where you can relax and chill. Just like the villas there is a TV, minibar, and tea and coffee making facilities.
There is also a beautiful infinity pool which is exclusively for the use of guests staying at The Mövenpick Karon Beach Residences.
Restaurants & Bars
There is a good choice of restaurants and bars to choose from in the resort. We had a plentiful buffet style breakfast buffet each morning at the Pacifica Restaurant (pictured above) and enjoyed a wonderful Churrasco barbeque dinner at El Gaucho Restaurant with generous portions of lamb, beef, chicken and more. Located directly below El Gaucho is MINT Bar, and as it’s just across from the beach, it’s the perfect place for enjoying happy hour cocktails. For something lighter or for a quick coffee, the Café Studio is perfect and of course there is plenty to choose from at the bar close to the main pool.
Mövenpick Chocolate Hour
If you’re feeling peckish anytime between lunch and dinner, Mövenpick hotels have come up with a really fabulous idea – “Chocolate Hour”! Every afternoon at the hotel there was a different selection of delectable chocolate treats such as chocolate fondue with fresh fruits and chocolate snacks to indulge in – and all for free! Deilcious!
There are a further three swimming pools to choose from and each one has a slightly different vibe. The main one with the slide is most popular with children and it’s great to have such a choice.
Little Bird Kids Club
Children are well catered for and there is an on site Kid’s Club offering a whole host of activities for children. There are lots of child friendly touches throughout the hotel such as the separate kid’s height buffet area in the restaurant and for breakfast. Naturally, Chocolate Hour is always a hit with children too. 🙂
There is a first class Spa offering a variety of massage and beauty treatments. It’s located in a beautiful place in the tropical gardens and is very relaxing and peaceful with flower and water displays and a pretty fountain.
It stays open till quite late and has eight treatment rooms. With everything on offer from Traditional Thai Massage all the way through to hot stones and facials it’s wonderfully relaxing. A perfect treat if you really want to chill out and enjoy your stay.
The Mövenpick Karon Beach Resort is located just across the road from Karon Beach. It’s a beautiful beach with a bustling promenade with lots of restaurants, bars and shops as well as a waterfront offering a whole range of outdoors pursuits.
You can paddle, swim, walk along the beach, go parascending, jet-skiing or hire a kayak. Whilst it’s a busy strip with plenty to do, inside the hotel grounds you can enjoy an oasis of beautifully tended gardens and lush tropical plants.
Plenty To Explore Nearby
There is plenty to explore all around the area from Karon Beach and beyond. We hired a car and enjoyed visiting nearby markets. Avoiding the busy Patong Beach we favoured quieter, more remote beaches. One morning we got up early and drove to Chalong Pier to take pictures of the sunrise and another evening we went to Amphoe Mueang to admire the beautiful sunset.
With its large variety of differing types of accommodation, there is something for everyone at the Mövenpick Karon Beach Resort in Phuket. My favourite were the apartment rooms at The Mövenpick Karon Beach Residences and other fabulous features are the beautifully tended gardens and the proximity to the beach. With a wonderful spa, a great selection of restaurants both on site and in the town, friendly and welcoming hotel staff, it was a wonderful place to unwind and relax.
