One Luxurious Night in Bangkok at the 137 Pillars Suites
I have a thing about the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Having enjoyed a recent stay at one of their hotels, the D-Resort in Gocek in June, I was extremely happy to find that the hotel I was staying at on my trip to Bangkok was also a member of this group.
There’s nothing “small” about the “137 Pillars Suites and Residences” to give it its full title though – everything about it is grand and luxurious. The owners were inspired by the original design of the 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai and have created a luxury boutique hotel which encompasses 34 Suites and 176 serviced Residences.
Arrival
I arrived early in the morning Bangkok time, straight off the flight from Zurich. Very soon my bleary eyed feelings disappeared as I was whisked up to the Leonowens Club on level 26 to complete check-in in style. I wasn’t very “compos mentis” at that hour of the morning, but the check in staff were extremely welcoming, patient and helpful.
At the same time I was invited to enjoy a wonderful buffet breakfast with a number of a la carte options. This facility is for the exclusive use of Suite guests and private members and was the perfect start to the day!
Rooms – 137 PILLARS SUITES
All the rooms are suites and I was staying in one of the Ayutthaya Suites in the lap of luxury. Not only did I have a fabulous Kingsize bed with a beautiful marble bathroom (with built in TV and state of the art Bose sound system), a separate walk in shower and a beautiful oval designer bathtub, but enough walk in wardrobe space for all my clothes back home!
The icing on the cake was a beautifully decorated living room. With fresh flowers and superb views it was so comfortable and relaxing. I could have stayed there all day.
Unadulterated Luxury Living
There was so much space I could almost get lost! It was such a shame I was only there for just one night as I slept so well (it would be hard not to!) on the Posturepedic Ultra Plush bed with 400 thread count linen!
High Tech Controls and Butler Service
The room is very high tech with lots of controls for music, air conditioning and light settings – so do get the porter to explain it all to you! There were plenty of plugs and USB ports for all my devices and super fast wifi which always makes me happy! To top it off there is a pantry with a private wine cellar and a bar – all in the same suite! Another feature of all the suites, if you need it, is the 24 hour butler and in suite private dining service.
The Hotel’s Serviced Residences
As well as the Suites the hotel also offers 176 serviced residences which are larger still and can be rented out for a variety of lengths of stay.
Rooftop Infinity Pool
The best thing about staying in one of the Suites is that it grants you exclusive access to the rooftop with the fabulous 360 degrees infitity pool (apparently the most instagrammed pool in Bangkok!) which is also complete with jacuzzi. The views are breathtaking and change dramatically at different times of the day.
Comfortable cabanas to lounge in as you take in the stunning views and a Sky bar where you can order cocktails and other drinks to keep refreshed, complete the scene.
Other Facilities
There is also a Fitness Centre and another roof top infinity pool. For those who need to practice their swing there is a Golf Driving Range and a Simulation Studio in the hotel.
Other facilities include a Business Centre with computers to browse the Internet and print any documents you might need. A full menu of massages, facials and holistic therapies can all be booked at Nitra Spa & Wellness on Level 28.
Restaurants and Bars at 137 Pillars
Nimitr Restaurant
In the evening we began with cocktails at Jack Bains rooftop bar and admired the constantly changing vista which was both breathtaking and beautiful. We dined at Nimitr Restaurant and enjoyed a fabulous meal. Offering what they call “Cutting Edge Oriental Gastronomy”, Chef de Cuisine Nanang Prasetya Aditama served us beautifully presented fish and pork dishes which were incredibly delicious.
If you prefer a more casual dining offering with both Western and Asian options, another restaurant is the Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Deli on the Lobby level. Of course there is also a full menu of in room dining options.
So if you’re looking for a luxurious stay in Bangkok and want to have every whim taken care of you will love this hotel. I found the service extremely courteous and helpful at all times and can assure you that you won’t want to leave! I certainly didn’t. 🙂
