Staying in Istanbul in Style
at the Shangri La Hotel
The Shangi La Hotel Istanbul is nestled in a tranquil spot along the Bosphorous and many of the rooms have direct views across the river. It’s a 5 star luxury hotel with comfortable rooms. Ours had large windows, a good range of facilities including free wifi, a flat screen tv, a dvd player and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
We stayed for 5 days and found it an excellent base from which to explore the city. After the hustle and bustle of a day visiting all the sights it was wonderful to come back and relax, walk or take a taxi to dinner or maybe pop down to the swimming pool or gym for a quick workout. It’s not in the centre of town but its location next to the water and very close to one of the ferry points, and to the trams and taxis and just down from the Dolomobahce Palace, made it very convenient.
Although we mainly ate out (see article on our visit to Istanbul here) the food we tried here was always fresh and delicious. They even do a magnificent afternoon tea every day with a beautiful array of wonderful treats.
The rooms were a good size with very comfortable beds, good amenities and we were given complimentary Turkish delight and other goodies when we first arrived.
The bathrooms were made of marble and one interesting feature was being able to watch TV from the bath as part of the large mirror above the basins was actually an integrated TV screen.
All in all it’s a great hotel with a very attentive and helpful staff who couldn’t do enough for us and a great place to relax in comfort after a full on day sightseeing.
