The Stunning Hotel Chetzeron
Crans Montana
Swiss Luxury Mountain Hideaway for Any Season
Stunning Location Whatever the Season
If you’re looking for a stunning hotel in a totally unique setting, the Chetzeron fits the bill! A former gondola station, the hotel occupies an incredible location set atop a mountain at 2112m, high above the village of Crans Montana. We visited in Winter during the ski season when you can simply ski out of the door onto superb slopes. However, it is also the perfect place to stay during the Summer, Spring or Autumn too, when all the hiking trails are open.
In fact there are plenty of sports you can enjoy in the region and the mountain bike trails are particularly popular.
Of course in Winter the beauty of waking up to snow scenes like this is not to be underestimated!
Modern and Unique
Former Gondola Station Turned Luxury Hotel
The hotel is modern, chic and luxurious. Under the direction of Sami Lamaa, with his attention to detail, the hotel runs like clockwork. A very charming and engaging host, Sami is extremely friendly and helpful. He is also supremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the hotel industry, with you could say, hospitality running through his veins.
You can see the passion for this very special mountain hideaway in his eyes. It was his vision which transformed this former gondola station into a gourmet restaurant in 2008 and then finally a luxury boutique hotel which opened in 2015.
Arthcitecture
The stark concrete walls, with large glass windows throughout provide the perfect foil for the stunning views. You are surrounded by nature at every angle. My favourite is the view when you first step into the the bar and lounge area and look straight ahead. Through this huge pane of glass you can actually see the Matterhorn to your right and Mont Blanc to your left. There are no words for it. It’s simply breathtaking.
The Rooms
There are just 16 bedrooms, of a variety of categories and each one with a superb panorama over the valley below. It’s the perfect place to get away from the crowds and simply chill; to luxuriate in your surroundings while enjoying fabulous food and a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
The huge picture windows with inbuilt seating take centre stage. Here you can actually sit down and be mesmerised by the spectacular and ever changing views. It’s almost like a giant screen or picture – but one where the scenery is forever changing.
Sunset is particularly spectacular as you watch the mountains become enveloped in a beautiful warm glow.
Even from the large, super comfortable beds you get the most amazing views.
Bathroom
The ensuite bathrooms are of a good size and beautifully fitted out in natural wood and stone.
The Restaurants
Having opened the Chetzeron originally as a gastronomic restaurant you certainly won’t be disappointed on the food front. Sami Lamaa is extremely knowledgeable about gastronomy and we had a great discussion about the latest food trends and enjoyed a delicious dinner in the main restaurant.
The dinner menu consisted of fresh, local delicacies and was beautifully presented and extremely tasty. The chocolate dessert was amazing!!
Breakfast is taken in the downstairs restaurant where there is an extensive buffet with both cold dishes and hot dishes to order. Beware the “pain au chocolat” – they are very moreish and are the best I’ve had for a long time! All the staff were friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble.
The Terrace
The large terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a lunch in the sun or an après ski drink or two. In the Summer they do grills out here which are simply delicious. We visited last Summer after hiking in the area and it was a joy to sit out and relax in the sunshine.
Relaxation
One thing I really liked was that there was plenty of space to go and read a book, settle down and relax. In the main lobby there is plenty of stylish (and very comfortable) seating. There is also a room with a cosy fire in Winter where you can chill and just gaze out across the mountains and towards the valley below.
If you fancy a massage or treatment do book one with the spa and after a hard day’s skiing there is nothing quite like enjoying the hot sauna and steam.
Swimming Pool Hot Tub
The pool was temporarily out of service when we visited (so we enjoyed hot tubs instead) but the swimming pool is due to be operational again for the Summer season.
Skiing / Hiking
When we visited in February it was full of snow and as the boot locker is located right before you exit the front door, you simply pop on your skis and whizz down the slopes. The beauty of “ski in and ski out” does really enhance your skiing pleasure! 🙂 Similarly, there’s nothing quite like going on a really nice hike as soon as you step out of the front door in Summer.
Getting There
Getting there is all part of the fun which makes the Chetzeron such a unique place. Since it’s perched up on the mountain in Winter you can take the gondola up and ski to it (the hotel will arrange for your luggage to be transported from the bottom of the gondola), or you can be collected by snowcat (above) which again is another adventure.
In Summer you can take the cable car and walk or get picked up with the hotel Land Rover Defender.
Design Hotel
The Chetzeron is an architecturally stunning hotel so it is no surprise to see that is is a member of the Design Hotels Group. It is also a member of the HIP hotels, the Urban Hotel Collection and of Authentic Hotels and Cruises.
Summer Season at Hotel Chetzeron Begins 24th May 2019
Hotel Chetzeron re-opens for the Summer Season on 24th May after a short break. Why not book ahead and recharge your batteries in the heart of nature at 2112m?
