The Wonderful Waldhaus Flims Wellness Resort
When you arrive back from the Waldhaus Flims Wellness Resort, you can’t help but feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Maybe its the healing power of nature, maybe its the attentive service throughout your stay. Or it could be the gastronomy or the breadth of wellness and sports activities on offer. Whatever it is, you can find it all here in Flims in this wonderful location in the mountains, surrounded by nature. Whether you’re a “foodie”, a gym bunny, a spa afficianado, love sport and the outdoors, or simply want to chill, you will find everything you need here and more.
The hotel has a backdrop of stunning mountains and trees and is located in its own beautiful parkland which in fact, is the largest hotel garden in the whole of Switzerland. It is perfect for couples, singles and families alike. It’s just a short walk from the town and ski resort of Flims and close by there are e-bike trails, hiking paths, and so much else to do. In addition the beautiful lakes of Crestasee and Caumasee are just a short distance away.
5 Star Wellness Resort
This 5-star wellness hotel was originally constructed in 1877. In Autumn 2016, it was completely renovated and now combines historical elegance with luxury and contemporary chic. The grandeur of the Belle Époque is still in evidence with the beautiful original buildings which blend in seamlessly with the glass cubes, adding light and modernity to the hotel.
Service is of the highest quality at all times and literally nothing is too much trouble. Hotel Director Burkhard Wolter ensures that everything runs like clockwork and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming so you can concentrate on enjoying your vacation. You simply feel pampered and cared for throughout.
The view from our bedroom balcony
On arrival after a complimentary welcome drink, we were shown up to our room. Our bedroom was a generously proportioned suite with an ensuite shower room and was located in the main building, the “Grand Hotel”. We also had a little balcony with comfy chairs and a table and breathtaking mountain views.
The bedroom and balcony views
Individually decorated, the rooms and suites offer superior hotel accommodation with all the latest technology – good quality complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screens, a Nespresso coffee machine and a minibar. You also have the option of being located in a Belle Epoque villa or an Alpine Chalet – each offering its own unique insight to this beautiful hotel.
There is so much to do in the hotel and there is even a small museum which is perfect for exploring on a rainy day. For children there is supervised child care and of course if you’re visiting in the Winter Season this hotel is perfect as you are just minutes from the slopes!
The Spa and Wellness at Waldhaus Flims
You can enjoy amazing gastronomy, go hiking, play tennis on the courts by the pool, have a game of golf or take an e-bike on a little tour. Or simply chill and enjoy the moment.
The highlight for me was the award-winning 3000 m² Waldhaus Spa and Wellness area. Complete with an outdoor/indoor pool, a nature pool, a steam bath, several saunas and treatment rooms, it was just heavenly.
The indoor swimming pool is located in a stunning glass cube. If you walk down a few steps you find yourself in a heated outdoor wellness pool where you can enjoy a beautifully warm temperatures as you relax with water jets, surrounded by views of nature.
The whole of the wellness area is enclosed by gardens where you can lie back on a lounger and read a book or simply enjoy the surroundings and chill.
Gym and Classes
For the more fitness inclined amongst you there is also a gym. They even run a number of fitness classes including pilates and yoga. As well as the group classes you can book individual classes too. We were lucky enough to enjoy a fabulous individual yoga class given by Hana. Hana has a knack for knowing just how far to push you so that you feel the exercises, but not too far that you overdo it.
Our yoga lesson went so quickly and was soooo good it felt like just 10 minutes! At the end of it I really felt so much better and so much more loosened up! Definitely to be recommended – so do book in advance if you can.
We also enjoyed the hotel’s blissful “signature massage” and as well as offering individual massages, they also do couples massages too. It’s the perfect way to set you up for a relaxing stay. In addition, the Spa offers a full menu of facial and body treatments.
To be honest I could write a whole article just about the food as it is truly amazing and we tried so many wonderful culinary options. It really is a foodies’s paradise!
Executive Chef Patrick Hetz (m) with Chefs Philip Lochmann (r) and David Müller (l) at the Epoca Restaurant
On the first night we dined in the Epoca Restaurant and enjoyed a fabulous menu with matching wines. Epoca’s dining room is located in a stunning glass cube which makes you feel as if you are outside in the gardens of the hotel. The attention to detail in the food as in every other aspect of the hotel was second to none. Chefs Philip Lochmann and David Müller had prepared a fabulous range of dining options and each morsel was delicious.
Chef Daorung Seeneha at Restaurant Siam
On the second day we were lucky enough to have a Thai cookery lesson with Chef Daorung Seeneha. She explained to us step by step how to create two delicious Thai sites and we had enormous fun! With Chef Daorung’s help it also tasted great too! In the evening we dined in the Siam restaurant and had a mixture of sharing plates which not only looked wonderful but tasted divine. If you are a fan of Thai cuisine this is really a restaurant you will want to visit. The Restaurant holds a Thai Buffet every Saturday from 6p and you can also dine from Friday to Tuesday evening in the restaurant. To find out more about Restaurant Siam see here.
We even had the opportunity to enjoy the luxury of the Waldhaus Flims Afternoon Tea served in our room which felt very decadent!
On the last day we had fondue in the Chadafö Bar which was relaxed and fun.
Breakfast is served every morning in the Siam Restaurant. As well as offering a hot station where the omelettes are sensational and they will cook whatever you like to order, there is a fabulous buffet. A a variety of beautiful, seasonal fresh fruit was served in generous quantities, Swiss Bircher Müsli was available, as well as pancakes, waffles, maple syrup, donuts, beautiful and tasty Swiss bread, cheeses, cold meats, smoked salmon and giants prawns. I’m sure I’ve left some things out – but basically the choice is endless.
They take food very seriously at the Waldhaus Flims Wellness Resort and the flavours, the freshness and the variety in all the restaurants we tried were delicious. Where possible all ingredients are sourced locally in Graubünden and the dishes in each of the restaurants were quite simply outstanding. It’s a perfect destination for food lovers!
e-Biking Tour From The Hotel
The hotel has its own e-Bikes and arranged a guided tour of the region for us. We had a great trip all around the paths in the local area with a wonderful guide from the hotel.
Il Spir viewing platform at Conn overlooking the Ruinaulta Gorge Flims
We went high above Caumasee and right down to the lake itself and climbed up the “Il Spir” observation platform at Ruinaulta (Switzerland’s answer to the Grand Canyon) where we got the most impressive views of the River Rhine.
Lake Caumasee Flims
Our guide was helpful and knowledgeable and went at exactly the right pace.
