A New Statue at St Peter’s in Zurich – Multitudes
Zurich really is a city of Art at the moment with so many exhibitions and art events taking place. There’s the Pavillon of Reflctions, floating Lake Zurich – (part of Manifesta11 and the European Arts Biennale), lots on to celebrate DADA for it’s 10 years anniversary and plenty of exhibitions all around.
In the middle of the old town right next to St Peter’s Church is a brand new sculpture called “Multitudes”. Standing more than four metres high this striking sculpture is a figure which includes human body parts imprinted all over it, all placed in anatomically correct places. In addition there are texts and inscriptions dotted around to symbolise the thoughts and words which each and every one of us carry round in our heads.
Inspiration behind the Sculpture
Designed by artist Nicholas Micros it was created as an homage to sculpture, to humanism and to the vibrancy of the people of the city – as it was they who inspired him as he watched and interacted with them in Zurich. In fact he actually created the scultpure in public – a true dialogue between the artist, the artwork and the general public – culminating in a multifaceted sculpture showing the vibrancy and diversity of humanity and life.
The Artist Nicholas Micros
Nicholas Micros has exhibited in New York and in Switzerland and has won numerous awards for his art, participating in both solo and group exhibitions.
